Job Title: Compliance Accountant

Location: Lekki, Lagos

Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • We are seeking a highly analytical, detail-oriented, and technology-driven Compliance Accountant to provide financial compliance, control, and oversight across all business units.
  • This role goes beyond traditional accounting.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that each business unit operates in line with approved financial controls, company policies, statutory requirements and regulatory obligations, while using AI-enabled tools, data analytics and automated monitoring systems to strengthen oversight, detect irregularities and improve management visibility.
  • The Compliance Accountant will serve as an independent financial-control function, reviewing transactions and processes across the organisation and ensuring that exceptions, discrepancies and non-compliance issues are identified, investigated and resolved promptly.

Key Responsibilities
Internal Financial Compliance & Control:

  • Monitor financial activities across all business units to ensure compliance with approved accounting procedures, operational controls and company policies.
  • Review revenue, expenses, purchases, payments, cash movements, inventory transactions, discounts, complimentary transactions, refunds, and other financial activities for irregularities or control weaknesses.
  • Perform routine and surprise compliance reviews across business units.
  • Review daily and periodic reconciliations and ensure discrepancies are investigated and properly resolved.
  • Monitor adherence to approval limits, procurement procedures, payment authorisations and expenditure controls.
  • Review supporting documentation for transactions to ensure completeness, accuracy and proper authorisation.
  • Identify revenue leakage, unusual transactions, duplicate payments, unsupported expenses and other financial-control risks.
  • Review inventory, stock movement and consumption records and investigate significant variances.
  • Monitor compliance with established cash-handling, POS, banking and revenue-reconciliation procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate segregation of duties and highlight areas where financial controls may be compromised.
  • Track audit and compliance findings to ensure responsible departments implement agreed corrective actions.

External & Statutory Compliance:

  • Ensure the organisation complies with applicable tax, financial, statutory and regulatory obligations.
  • Coordinate the preparation, review and timely submission of required statutory returns and supporting schedules.
  • Monitor compliance relating to VAT, withholding tax, PAYE, corporate tax and other applicable statutory obligations.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation required for external audits, tax reviews and regulatory inspections.
  • Work closely with external auditors, tax consultants, regulatory bodies and other professional advisers where required.
  • Maintain a compliance calendar showing filing dates, payments, licence renewals and other statutory obligations.
  • Immediately escalate potential regulatory exposure, penalties or unresolved compliance issues to Management.

AI-Driven Compliance & Business Oversight:

  • A major responsibility of this position will be the effective use of Artificial Intelligence, automation and data analytics to improve financial oversight across all business units.

The Compliance Accountant will be expected to:

  • Use approved AI and analytical tools to continuously review financial and operational data across multiple business units.
  • Use automated analysis to identify unusual patterns, abnormal expenditure, revenue inconsistencies, duplicate transactions, inventory variances and potential financial leakage.
  • Establish exception-based monitoring so that transactions outside approved parameters are quickly identified for investigation.
  • Use AI-supported reconciliation tools to compare sales, POS, bank deposits, inventory, purchases and accounting records.
  • Develop automated alerts for overdue reconciliations, unresolved variances, policy breaches and abnormal transaction patterns.
  • Apply AI tools to analyse historical financial data and identify recurring weaknesses or areas requiring stronger controls.
  • Review outputs generated by AI systems critically and independently; AI recommendations must support professional judgement and should never replace proper accounting verification or investigation.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to automate repetitive compliance checks while improving accuracy, speed and management reporting.
  • Work with Management and relevant technology teams to improve integration between accounting, inventory, POS, procurement and operational systems.

Multi-Unit Compliance Oversight:
The Compliance Accountant will provide financial-control oversight across the Group and will be expected to:

  • Conduct structured compliance reviews across assigned business locations.
  • Compare financial and operational performance between units to identify unusual trends or inconsistencies.
  • Ensure standard financial-control procedures are consistently implemented across all locations.
  • Maintain a central register of financial-control breaches, findings, responsible officers, and corrective actions.
  • Follow identified issues through to closure rather than merely reporting exceptions.
  • Escalate recurring violations or significant control failures to Management.
  • Provide independent financial intelligence that helps Management understand where money is being lost, controls are being bypassed or operational processes require improvement.

Audit, Investigation & Risk Management:

  • Support internal and external financial audits.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations into financial discrepancies, irregular transactions and suspected policy violations.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on recurring reconciliation or compliance problems.
  • Review system access, transaction approvals and financial workflows for potential control vulnerabilities.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and evidence for compliance investigations.
  • Recommend corrective measures to strengthen controls and prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain a financial and compliance risk register and regularly update Management on significant exposures.

Financial Reporting & Management Intelligence:

  • Prepare structured weekly and monthly compliance reports for Management.
  • Report on exceptions, reconciliations, statutory obligations, control breaches and outstanding corrective actions.
  • Develop dashboards showing key compliance indicators across all units.
  • Provide clear analysis rather than simply presenting raw accounting data.
  • Highlight financial risks, unusual patterns and areas requiring immediate management attention.
  • Present recommendations for strengthening processes, reducing leakage and improving accountability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or HND in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
  • Professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA, ICAN or equivalent is required.
  • 3–5 years' relevant experience in accounting, internal control, audit, compliance or financial operations.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, reconciliations, financial controls and statutory compliance.
  • Good knowledge of Nigerian tax and financial regulatory requirements.
  • Strong Excel and financial-data analysis skills.
  • Experience with accounting, ERP, POS, or inventory-management systems.
  • Strong understanding of internal-control frameworks and financial-risk management.
  • Ability to analyse large volumes of transactions and identify inconsistencies.

Salary
N600,000 - N700,000 per annum.

Application Closing Date
14th September, 2026.
