The International Center
for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) - a member of the CGIAR Consortium - develops
technologies, innovative methods, and new knowledge that better enable farmers,
especially smallholders, to make agriculture competitive and profitable as well
as sustainable and resilient.
CIAT is seeking a Research Assistant with the main responsibility of providing technical support to the AGMIP and Africa Rising projects within the Soils Research Area.
Main responsibilities include:
- Prepare
monthly newsletter on the most current climate change and modeling issues
- Assist in
organizing meetings and training workshops
- Collect and
quality control agronomic survey datasets
- Maintain and
continuously update agronomic database and the existing AfSIS database
- Participate
in data analysis and preparation of reports and manuscripts
- Coordinate
sample and data flows between field and laboratory
The candidate shall have the following competencies, skills and
experience:
- Master’s
Degree in Agriculture, Soil Science or Environmental Studies
- 3 years’
experience with proven ability to work with large datasets
- Data
analysis skills and familiarity with different data analysis tools
- Good
communication and report writing capabilities
- Publications
or submissions for publication ¡n a peer reviewed journal will be an
advantage
Terms of employment:
The position is nationally
recruited and will be based at the CIAT Offices in Nairobi, Kenya.
The contract will be for a
one-year period, subject to a probation period of three (3) months, renewable
depending on performance and availability of resources.
