Vice-Chancellor Job in Nigeria - Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun (FUHSI)

The Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun, Osun State, was established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2021 to expand access to quality university education and train medical personnel to strengthen the provision of medical services in Nigeria. The University is a specialized institution focused on Health, Nutrition, and Medical Sciences, located along Ora Road in Ila-Orangun, Osun State. 

The Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun, in accordance with the provisions of the University's Establishment Act (2023) and the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1993, as amended, invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position below will become vacant on 27th January 2027:

About the Role

  • The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the University.

  • He / She is responsible for the academic, physical, and infrastructural development of the University through proper utilisation of the University's resources.
  • The Vice-Chancellor ensures not only high-level academic and moral discipline, but also adequate welfare for staff and students as well as peace, stability, and good governance in the University.
  • In addition, the Vice-Chancellor establishes good relations with external agencies and organisations, both national and international, and attracts resources and benefactions for the University.

Requirements
The candidate for the post of Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun, Osun State shall:

  • Possess a Doctoral Degree or fellowship (for medically qualified candidates only) with at least 15 years of experience in the University system after doctoral/fellowship training;
  • Be a professor with a field of specialisation in Medical or Health Sciences;
  • Be a distinguished Professor and an acclaimed scholar from a recognised University with a minimum of seven years on the rank as at the close of the advertisement;
  • Have delivered an Inaugural Lecture in a recognized Institution;
  • Be a person with excellent managerial/administrative and leadership experience in a reputable and recognised university;
  • Be an outstanding scholar with good publications in quantity and quality in reputable outlets within and outside Nigeria, and show evidence of continuous research productivity through scholarly publications post professorial attainment;
  • Candidate should be the first, last or corresponding author in majority (at least 60%) of the listed publications;
  • A minimum Google Scholar Citation Score of 1500, an H-Index score of 15;
  • Show evidence of international recognition and linkages such as membership in international organizations, presentations and/or grants;
  • Show verifiable evidence of attracting high impact research grants as Principal Investigator from organizations within and outside Nigeria and possess excellent skill to mentor young Faculty members in grantsmanship;
  • Be a person with entrepreneurial drive with potential to source funds for the University and increase its revenue base;
  • Be a person with high level of emotional intelligence and ability to create synergy and promote peace and unity across different sections of the university while promoting harmonious relationship among town and gown;
  • Be knowledgeable and possess certification/training in Information Communication Technology (ICT) to drive the expectations of 21st century Institution;
  • Possess and be able to present a clear vision for the transformation and development of the FUHSI into a highly competitive 21st century university;
  • Be a person who is physically and mentally fit to endure the pressure of the office of the Vice-Chancellor;
  • Be not more than 65 years old by January 27, 2027.

Tenure and Conditions of Service

  • The Vice-Chancellor shall hold office for a single term of five (5) years only.
  • The conditions of service are as applicable to the position of a Vice-Chancellor in Nigerian Federal Universities as may be determined by the Federal Government from time to time.
  • He shall be responsible to the Governing Council for the implementation of the policy, financial control and infrastructure of the university.
