University Librarian Job in Nigeria - Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun (FUHSI)

The Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun, Osun State, was established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2021 to expand access to quality university education and train medical personnel to strengthen the provision of medical services in Nigeria. The University is a specialized institution focused on Health, Nutrition, and Medical Sciences, located along Ora Road in Ila-Orangun, Osun State. 

The Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun, in accordance with the provisions of the University's Establishment Act (2023) and the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1993, as amended, invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position below will become vacant on 27th January 2027:

Preamble

  • The Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun announces that the position of the University Librarian will become vacant on 27th January 2027.

  • Therefore, in accordance with the provisions of the University's Establishment Act (2023) and the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1993, as amended, the Governing Council invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position.

About the Role

  • The University Librarian is a Principal Officer and the head of the University’s Library responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administration and coordination of the activities of the University Library.
  • The candidate for the post shall be visionary and could provide good leadership. The candidate must possess personal integrity and demonstrate transparency in private and public life.
  • The candidate must be able to command the respect and loyalty of the University staff.

Requirements
The candidate must possess the following qualification skills:

  • Possess a good honors Degree with minimum of Second Class Lower Division and a Master Degree in Library and Information Studies from a recognized institution;
  • Possess Doctoral degree in Library and information sciences and/or other relevant fields;
  • Have minimum of fifteen (15) years post-qualification experience and five (5) years of experience as a Deputy University Librarian in a recognised University;
  • Possess professional registration with the Librarians Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN), and membership of relevant societies;
  • Possess excellent skills in Information Communication Technology and can proficiently use relevant databases and software in the physical and e-library;
  • Have proven record in managerial leadership in academic library;
  • Show evidence of scholarship in publication by quantity and quality;
  • Have considerable international exposure with potential to attract donors and grants for the development of the University Library;
  • Possess and can present an excellent vision for the development of the library to a 21st century library;
  • Be not more than 60 years old by January 27, 2027.

Tenure and Conditions of Service

  • The tenure for the University Librarian is as contained in the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun Establishment Law 2023 and the University Miscellaneous Provisions Act 1993 as amended.
  • All other conditions and benefits attached to the office of the Bursar in the Federal Universities in Nigeria are applicable as determined time to time by the Federal Government of Nigeria / Governing Council.
  • The University Librarian shall hold office on such terms and conditions as specified in the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun Establishment Act 2023 and the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1993, as amended, and as applicable to Nigerian Federal Universities, as may be determined by the Federal Government from time to time.
