We serve nearly
10,000 people every single day with hygienic sanitation through a network of
over 200 Fresh Life Toilets.
We are looking
for candidates who are looking to help build out a communications strategy at a
fast-paced, growing social enterprise.
Roles & Responsibilities
The
Communications Officer will be based in Nairobi, Kenya.
We are looking
for someone excited about the opportunity to work in Mukuru, an informal
settlement in Nairobi, as well as our corporate office located near Nairobi’s
central business district.
The
Communications Officer will be responsible for supporting the communications
strategy through planning, development and delivery of internal and external
communication.
The responsibilities for this role
include:
- Proactively identifying and collecting stories from the community to share with different stakeholders
- Cultivate relationships with and pitch our story to the local media
- Coordinating Sanergy tour visits with Sanergy’s guests, as well as preparing for and co-leading tours
- Establishing relationships with Sanergy’s new hires and Fresh Life Operators on behalf of the Communications Team
- Conducting, recording, and archiving interviews with Fresh Life Operators
- Initiating quality photography for Fresh Life Operators, Fresh Life businesses, and Sanergy new hires
- Maintaining communications displays in Sanergy’s corporate and field offices
- Tracking and archiving press mentions
- External Partner relations – assisting with fulfilling requests for Sanergy assets from media outlets and other Sanergy stakeholders
- Providing media and communications training for staff, in building their capacity to work with the communications team to collect quality stories from the field
Requirements
Candidates
applying for the Communications Officer position should be able to demonstrate
not only 2+ years of experience working in communications, but a sincere passion
for the communications field.
The candidate
should be able to demonstrate strong relationship-building skills, a history of
innovative thinking, and a willingness to simultaneously learn and apply new
skills.
We are looking
for candidates who can demonstrate success working independently in past roles,
but who greatly enjoy being part of a team and collaborating on bigger projects
to achieve a shared vision.
Strong candidates will be able to
demonstrate:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism media studies, international affairs or related course
- 2+ years of work experience in communications field
- Excellent writing and communications skills in English and Kiswahili
- Strong relationship-building skills
- Strong photography and photo editing skills
- Strong competency with graphic design programs, MailChimp, and WordPress blogs and websites
- Keen understanding of use of new technologies in communications
- Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work effectively and enthusiastically within time constraints
- Experience working in a fast-paced, high-pressure, flexible startup environment
