responsAbility is launching a renewable energy fund that will invest in, develop, own, and operate renewable energy projects in East Africa.
Technologies to be
considered for investment include small hydro, solar, wind, biomass and
geothermal.
We are seeking a
Projects Engineer to join the team and lead the technical and engineering
aspects of our power projects at all stages of development both in the field
and from our Nairobi office.

In early stage development projects, the Projects Engineer will work in coordination with an international engineering company to evaluate project proposals.
Specifically, the
Project Engineer will be responsible for evaluating technical viability of
prefeasibility studies and feasibility studies.
He will also work
closely with the international engineering firm and assist in gathering data on
potential power projects in order to carry out in-house assessments.
For advanced stage
projects, the Projects Engineer will be involved in equipment sourcing and
selection, contractor selection, supervision of design exercises, licensing and
approvals, and other related activities.
During the execution phase of projects that we decide to invest in, the Projects Engineer will work closely with the international engineer to coordinate supervision of the construction of power plants and contractor work.
The Projects Engineer
will be responsible for ensuring that the projects progress on schedule and in
budget and will coordinate with all key stakeholders to achieve this.
Skills and Experience:
- Extensive
experience in renewable energy project development, ideally with a focus
on hydro power
- Proven track
record managing teams and contractors in all phases of power project
development from the prefeasibility stage through to construction and
commissioning
- Knowledge and
experience in power plant operations, maintenance, and staffing
- Familiarity with
grid connection issues
- Experience in
civil works development for hydroelectric power projects
- Experience in
conducting preliminary site analyses and evaluating prefeasibility and
feasibility studies
- Ability to
conduct site surveys and compile and analyze hydrological data
- Proven track
record in carrying out independent evaluation on technical drawings and
specifications for projects
- Experience
working on construction or civil engineering sites preferably in a
planning and supervisory role
- A self-starter
who can work independently as well as in a team environment
While you will be based
in Nairobi, a substantial amount of time is expected to be spent travelling in
East Africa.
To fulfil these requirements, you possess:
- A Master’s
degree or higher in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering
- Relevant
engineering professional certification required
- Proficiency in
AutoCAD and Microsoft Project
- Strong
organizational and project management skills
- Strong
communication and intercultural skills
- Excellent oral
and written English, additional African language skills would be of
advantage
