Human Resources
for Health (HRH) Kenya is a USAID funded project implemented by IntraHealth
International Inc.
The goal of the
project is to strengthen the human resources for health systems in Kenya at
both the national and county levels and ultimately improve health outcomes for
the Kenyan people.
Project Accountant
Reporting to the
Finance Manager, the incumbent will provide support in the Finance and
Accounting function.
Specific Responsibilities
- Take a lead on checking timeliness, accuracy, completeness and adequacy of supporting documents accompanying liquidation for Activity and Travel imprest
- Generate and process adjusting journal vouchers
- Preparation of monthly bank reconciliations
- Take the lead in compiling accruals in relation to all unpaid obligations (including salaries) at month end ensuring that all amounts are captured accurately, traceable to the source documents and coded to the correct projects.
- Co-ordinate the month-end Field financial reporting process to ensure timely and accurate monthly financial reports
- Reconciliation of General ledger accounts between Field financial reports and centralized HQ accounting reports
- Provide support in compilation of various donor and internal management finance reports
- Provide support on monthly budget verses expenditures variances monitoring
- Manage the payables accounts to ensure completeness and accuracy of accruals ledger and suppliers ledgers
- Manage the Receivables accounts to ensure completeness and accuracy
- Manage the deposits accounts to ensure that necessary expendable amounts are expensed on a timely and accurate basis
- Manage the duty and tax exemptions process by ensuring DAI forms are prepared in a timely and accurate manner and ensure accurate recording of VAT transactions in the general ledger.
- Oversee the management of the petty cash system ensuring that the laid down policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Provide support in the processing of Suppliers payments and Travel/Activity advances via the applicable mode of payment: EFT, MPESA and cheques
- Provide support to the Grants portfolio as required
Education & Qualification
- A bachelors degree in Accounting or equivalent field
- At least 4 years working experience in busy accounting department.
- Experience in USAID rules & regulations is an added advantage
- Minimum of CPA I1 with proficiency in Quickbooks
- Well developed Interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft office packages with good Excel skills
- High integrity, honesty, initiative and team-player
