The clinical nurse shall work in specific ward/clinic assigned

staff.

Prepare for and assist the doctors during the rounds and
whenever required.
·
Ensure that all required observations, prescribed treatment and
procedures are properly carried out and documented on patient’s charts.
·
Refer to the doctor in charge or to the doctor/CO on call
relevant information such as patient’s status and laboratory results, which
would assist in proper clinical management.
·
Assist patients with activities of daily living while in the
ward.
·
Arrange and submit weekly ward work schedule and plan daily
duties and responsibilities for each refugee staff.
·
Convene ward meeting and attend monthly hospital meetings.
·
Escort patient to other referral hospital when necessary.
·
Do hospital coverage and on-call as required.
·
Participate in camp health surveys/campaigns.
Reporting and communication
·
Compile and submit quarterly inventory return/requisition of all
drugs and supplies.
·
Conduct regular training session for refugee staff on basic
nursing care/management of various ward cases and charting.
·
Give health education to patients and clients
·
Compile and submit monthly reports.
·
Monitor and supervise proper usage of supplies.
Operations
·
Maintain equipment in good condition and submit regular
inventory report of the same.
·
Maintain drug registers and drug consumption within the ward
level.
·
Ensure that all admissions, discharges, transfers and deaths are
properly recorded as they occur.
·
Report any significant changes in operations to the hospital
matron.
·
Carry out any other additional duties as may be assigned by the
supervisor.
Minimum requirements:
·
Registered Nurse from KMTC or recognized nurse training
institution
·
Registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya
·
At least 2 years working experience in a busy hospital setup.

Laboratory Technologist

Description
Based in Hagadera, the laboratory technologist will actively contribute in the improvement of quality of care by ensuring quality laboratory services are delivered to the beneficiaries.

He/she will be supervising all laboratory assistants and will
capacity build them through laboratory assistants training and on bench
training.
He/She will be answerable to Senior Laboratory Technologist.

Perform Laboratory investigations as per clinician’s request and
ensure accurate, reliable and timely results.

Maintain order and smooth flow of patients.

Preparing of stains, reagents and solutions necessary for all
lab tests.

Participate in the department planning and forecasting of
laboratory supplies.
Human Resource:
·
Supervise laboratory incentive staff in collaboration with the
senior lab technologist to ensure work is done properly.

Counter check all work done by incentive staff.
·
In collaboration with the field HR, ensure adherence to HR
policies to all incentive staff,

Ensure laboratory tests are performed accurately and timely
·
Ensure revised SOP’s are used in all testing procedures.
·
Ensure proper collection, packaging and transportation of
laboratory samples to Nairobi hospital and/or other outsourced centre.
·
Supervise the storage of laboratory reagents and cold chain
system to avoid compromised reagents that may lead to false reporting.
Reporting and Coordination:
·
Ensure all laboratory reports are done on time and sent to HIS,
CSM and other offices as may be indicated.
·
Notify your supervisor and CSM on all investigations above the
positive threshold.
·
Report any laboratory incidents to the senior lab technologist.
Others:
·
Carry out any other duty assigned by your supervisor

Mental Health Nurse - Kakuma

refugees and, provide technical advice on all cases of psychiatric disorders.

Oversee and conduct mental health assessments, diagnose and plan
individual case management of psychiatric patients in the camp and refer
accordingly.

Develop nursing care plans for psychiatric patients admitted
into the ward and liaise treatment plans with the Mental Health Officer
·
Participate in developing community networks to support mental
health patients in the community.
·
Provide psychiatric support through use of individual or group
counseling and psychotherapy.
·
Train mental health assistants, Community Health Promoters and
other groups exposed to persons with mental health disorders
·
Supervise mental health assistants and ensure that data records
for all the patients attended at the clinics are well kept
·
Compile weekly and monthly reports.
·
Conduct community education to create awareness so as to
initiate community participation as a PHC approach.

Participate in intra and inter-program meetings as well as
general staff meetings

Liaise with other implementing partners within the refugee camp
in advocacy for mental health clients

Minimum Requirements:

Diploma in nursing from a recognized nurse training institution,

Certificate or Diploma in community psychiatric nursing.
·
Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya and have a
practicing license.
·
Previous experience in working within a community setting
desirable
·
Experience of working in a resource poor setting and/or camp
environment is an added advantage
·
Language preferences: Fluency in Turkana/ Somali an added
advantage.
·
At least 2 years experience working in complex, multifaceted,
community health program.
·
Strong communication skills: oral: written and presentation
skills.
·
Similar experience in a humanitarian setting is desirable
·
Should be a team player and culturally sensitive
·
Ability to work and live in difficult environmental conditions
