Tegemeo Institute of Agricultural Policy and Development
Tegemeo Institute of Agricultural Policy and Development, is an institute of
Egerton University mandated to conduct agricultural policy research in
Kenya.
The Institute is looking for highly motivated, proactive
service-oriented and energetic individuals to fill the following positions based in Nairobi.
1. Research Fellow
(Three Positions)
Reporting to the Director of the Institute and other Senior
Researchers, the Research Fellow will be responsible for the continuous
development and dissemination of agricultural policy information and
data.
The successful candidate will be expected to design relevant
policy research projects, collect data, undertake data analysis and write
research reports and policy briefs.
The work will also entail considerable outreach and advocacy
activities with key stakeholders in the Agricultural and Rural Development Sector.
Qualifications and skills
The preferred candidate should have the following:
- A
PhD or a Masters degree in Agricultural Economics from a recognized
institution
- At
least three (3) years relevant experience for Masters degree holder
- Extensive
knowledge of, and practical skills in applying statistical analysis,
econometric and quantitative methods
- Proven
ability to conduct research independently and produce high quality reports
and publications
- Competence
in statistical software such as SPSS and STATA
- Knowledge
and experience in design, implementation and analysis of household level
data is an added advantage
2. Communications / Outreach Officer
(One Position)
Reporting to the Senior Research Fellow in charge of Outreach
and Advocacy, the Communication Officer will be responsible for the
implementation of a communication and outreach program and ensure institutional
documents comply with laid down requirements.
Other key tasks shall include:
- Develop
a communication and media strategy for the Institute
- Ensure
a positive corporate image of the Institute
- Establish
and sustain linkages with external organizations in line with the
Institute’s mandate
- Organize
outreach events and media interviews
- Edit
and proofread all documents/manuscripts presented to clients or submitted
for publication
- Advise
on the contents of publications according to the publication’s style,
editorial policy, and publishing requirements
Qualifications and skills:
The preferred candidate should possess the following:
- Masters
degree in Communication, Journalism or related field
- For
a Masters in social sciences, a Bachelor’s degree or post graduate diploma
in Communication, and Journalism or related field is required
- At
least five (5) years’ relevant experience
- Good
communication, presentation and public relations skills
- Be
fluent in written and spoken English
- Have
experience in editing/proofreading especially on economic policy issues
- Membership
in Public Relations Society of Kenya is an added advantage
3. Procurement Officer
(One Position)
Reporting to the Finance and Administration Manager, the
Procurement Officer will be responsible for all the procurement ofgoods and
services.
Other key tasks shall include:
- Implement
and enforce the laid down procurement procedures
- Planning,
reviewing, advising and processing of all purchases, requisitions and
specifications
- Support
in negotiations of contractual agreements with suppliers to ensure value
for money
- Ensuring
supplier relationships are maintained
- Manage
and maintain updated asset registers and store
- Recommend
and carry out the disposal of obsolete and unserviceable items
Qualifications and skills:
The preferred candidate should possess the following:
- A
degree in Supplies Management or business related field
- For
business related field, a Diploma in Supplies/Procurement management is
required
- A
member of the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM), or equivalent
- Have
at least three (3) years’ relevant work experience.
- Be
proficient in Computer Applications
- Must
meet the requirements set out in Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya
- Extensive
knowledge and implementation of the Public Procurement Act
- Have
demonstrated outstanding professional competence, leadership and
management skills
- Experience
in working with Donor-funded Projects will be an added advantage
4. Human Resource Officer
(One Position)
The Human Resource Officer will be responsible for the
establishment and implementation of all Human Resource operations of the
Institute.
Other key tasks shall include:
- Oversee
maintenance and update of all HR records
- Administer
staff payroll
- Coordinate
and supervise the implementation of the Institute’s Human Resource
Policies
- Oversee
employee relations/welfare activities e.g. SACCOs and benevolent funds
- Plan
and organize recruitment and induction processes in collaboration with
project and departmental heads
- Develop
systems for establishment and maintenance of HR best practices including
staff contract management
- Oversee
performance management and contracting
- Ensure
a conducive work environment including proper maintenance of the
Institute’s assets and facilities
Qualifications and skills:
The preferred candidate should possess the following:
- A
degree in Human Resource Management or related field
- For
a related field, a Diploma in HR is required
- At
least four (4) years’ work experience in a HR department
- Strong
leadership, organizational and managerial skills
- Computer
knowledge for relevant HR and Admin Systems and solid understanding of the
labor relations laws in Kenya
- Excellent
planning and communication skills, both in spoken and written English
- Hardworking,
results oriented and a persuasive individual with excellent interpersonal
skills
- Membership
of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) will be an added
advantage
A competitive remuneration package will be offered to the
successful candidate(s). Each position carries with it a two (2) year renewable
contract, subject to six months probation.
