Job Opportunity
PeaceNet Kenya, a fast growing network of peace builders in Kenya with strong regional and international linkages is seeking to recruit an Accountant to be stationed at the National Office / Secretariat in Nairobi.
The main function of the position is to apply accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures are adhered to.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Reviewing and certifying, requisitions, quotations, purchases orders, petty cash returns, imprest returns, cashbook analysis, payment vouchers, all donor reports in line with donor guidelines, in order to produce timely reports for approval by the Finance Manager.
  • Compiling and analyzing financial information for preparation of monthly/annual financial statements.
  • Ensuring financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted standard/organization policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring all financial reporting deadlines are met.
  • Resolving accounting discrepancies and irregularities
  • Continuously managing and supporting budgetary and forecast of activities
  • Monitoring and supporting taxation issues and ensuring that they are appropriately paid
  • Developing and maintaining donor data base
  • Preparing and coordinating the end year financial audit process
  • Ensuring that, fixed asset register is properly updated on monthly basis
  • Producing timely and accurate payroll every month
  • Reviewing all returns/imprest from the field and ensuring it is in line with approved budget/activity intended.
  • Preparing Financial Statements and other reports, for donors and partners
  • Summarizing current and projected financial position ensuring availability of funds to meet obligations.
  • Ensuring that, proper authorization of all payments is strictly followed and supported.
  • Ensuring proper preparation of payment vouches, cheque books and cash book records as well as financial statements and entries to monthly accounts in accordance with accounting regulations.
  • Preparing monthly bank reconciliations for all bank accounts held by the organization
  • Support Finance Manager in implementation and review of systems of financial control 
  •  In the absence of the Finance Manager, undertake day to day responsibilities for managing finance with the support of the Programme Manager and /or the Chief Executive Officer.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ideal candidates will have the following skills;-
  • Proficiency in computerised accounting
  • Knowledge and experience using QuickBooks a must
  • Experience managing multiple grants
  • Familiarity with EU/USAID/DFID/UNDP grant accounting
Academic Qualification and Competence:
  • A Bachelor of Commerce degree, Accounting/finance option, plus CPAII
  • Minimum 2 years work experience in a non-profit environment
  • Immediately available
