Under the overall supervision of the Emergency and Programming Coordinator, and in liaison with the relevant technical and Monitoring and Evaluation units of FAO Somalia, the Field Monitor will monitor implementation at field level.

The
Field Monitor will not be involved in any way in the selection of
beneficiaries, intervention sites or resource mobilization.
The
Field Monitor’s activities will be limited to recording progress and
constraints.
Specifically, the Field Monitor will:

- monitor project
implementation at the field level;
- participate in
continuous dialog with local communities, implementing partners as well as
relevant local stakeholders on the nature of the programme and their
specific role;
- represent FAO
when liaising with partners and local communities on FAO field
implementation issues;
- Provide general
and relevant information on security issues of the area of assignment to
FAO field security officer; report on incidents that might affect FAO
field implementation in the area;
- liaise with and
provide feedback to FAO technical units to ensure all necessary
information is available for FAO to report field implementation and
delivery;
- make first-hand
visits to project sites and record field implementation progress and
constraints;
- collect local
market information on a regular basis;
- collect stories
on beneficiaries of FAO interventions;
- draft and
distribute regular reports on the activities of the Emergency Crisis
Response Programme in the area of assignment, as well as of any other FAO
projects active in the area, and their impacts on the humanitarian
situation;
- ensure flow of
information and provide analysis of situation and developments in the area
of assignment, including tracking trends and sharing reports;
- perform other
related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma in a
related field or compensated by additional years of experience/
specialized training.
- At least three
years of experience in field monitoring
- Ability to
effectively use standard MS Office software, especially experience with
database and content management systems.
- Ability to work
under minimum supervision.
- Ability to work
in a multicultural environment.
Education: Diploma in a related field or compensated by additional
years of experience/ specialized training.
Knowledge and skills:
Knowledge and skills:
- At least three
years of experience in field monitoring.
- Systematic and
efficient approach to work assignments; good judgment and analytical
ability; excellent attention to details; communicates with supervisors and
colleagues on a regular basis; candid and trustworthy when issues are
raised.
- Ability to work
under minimum supervision.
- Good knowledge
of the UN work system and ability to work effectively with people of
different national and cultural backgrounds
Languages: Excellent knowledge of English and Somali
