The Organization

disabilities through their integration into mainstream
development activities and the provision of appropriate health and rehabilitation services to ensure equal opportunities for all.

The rehabilitation project in Dadaab aims to provide and secure
tangible and measurable improvement of independency in activities of daily
living and quality of life of refugees living with physical impairment or
disability.
The Position
The EAPO will support UNHCR and Education implementing partners
in the Dadaab refugee camps in the setting up of a mechanism for management and
implementation of assessment and placement of children with disabilities in
schools.
He/she will support the promotion of inclusive education into
the overall education strategy spearheaded by UNHCR.
He/She is expected to closely work with all agencies of concern
and will build on the existing CBR committee, incentive refugee team (CBR
Workers, mid-level therapists, Mental Health officer, mainstreaming officers).
The overall objective of the EAPO will consist in strengthening
the capacity of all education stakeholders towards the achievement of a
decentralized assessment and placement process targeting children with
disability.
S/he will be responsible for
1. Strengthening the capacity of Education partners in Dadaab,
towards enrolment of children with disability at school through assessment and
placement.
2. Enhancing capacity of different actors of education in DADAAB
on Inclusive Education.
- Develop
capacity development programme targeting teachers, principals and parents
on inclusive education and follow up on its inception/implementation
- Develop
capacity development programme on inclusive education targeting
implementing partners and their staff of concern
3. Representation
- Participate
and actively represent Handicap International in the education forums with
a view to promote the inclusive education agenda
4. Knowledge Management
- Promote good
practices and share lessons learnt
5. Monitoring and Evaluation
Qualifications and skills required:
Essential
Education
- Bachelor
in Special Education or equivalent
Experience
- 3
years practical experience in related field
- Experience
in sign language/braille and other communication methods added advantage.
- Knowledge
on inclusive education an added advantage
