Treasury Manager
Our client, Umeme Limited, is a major investment of Actis’ Infrastructure 2 fund. Actis is a leading investor in the emerging markets, investing exclusively in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
Presently, Actis manages over US$4.8bn worth of investment on behalf of more than 100 institutional investors.

To help in achieving these goals, Umeme is looking to recruit an
individual with high integrity, dedication and commitment to 11 the position of
a Treasury Manager.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Treasury Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Umeme’s treasury operations and controls including cash and liquidity management, corporate financial management and nancial risk management, while maintaining an optimum taxation position.
The Treasury Manager will also have contact with senior managers
and key external takeholders including financial institutions, key investors,
Uganda Revenue Authority and the securities exchange, which requires strong
interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide
strategic and operational direction to the treasury function;
- Ensure
accurate and timely accounting of treasury transactions including review
of reconciliations of cash and near cash items;
- Forecast
and manage the company’s cash flows and ensure adequate liquidity to meet
obligations as they fall due;
- Coordinate
funding plans of both short-term and long investment initiatives;
- Source
and manage new funds, including but not exclusively, concessionary funding
and represent Umeme in discussions and up to final agreements;
- Ensure
that Umeme complies with nancing contractual terms and covenants;
- Manage
tax planning and compliance review exercises;
- Coordinate
and implement financial risk management strategies covering interest rate,
foreign exchange and liquidity risks;
- Support
the annual and long-term planning processes through input and advice to
management on cash flow forecasts and macro-economic variables.
- Enforce
policies and procedures related to corporate treasury processes;
- Manage
relationships with financial institutions;
- Supervise
staff in the treasury section.
The successful candidate will have:
- Demonstrable
track record of performance for more than two years at supervisory level
in the treasury area;
- Excellent
technical financial and accounting knowledge;
- Experience
in setting up, implementing and monitoring strong financial control
systems;
- Familiarity
with bank interface systems and Treasury Management Systems;
- Good
understanding of Ugandan tax legislation is added advantage;
- Must
be procient in MS Office;
- Able
to thrive in a fast-pace setting environment;
- Strong
verbal and written communication skills;
- Strong
interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills required;
- Ability
to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required.
We are looking for a candidate who holds a good first degree in
Accounting, Business Administration (Finance), Commerce, Statistics or any
other associated discipline from a recognized university.
A Post graduate qualification in ACCA, CIMA, CPA) will be
desirable.
