Project Accounts Assistant for IITA
IITA is an international non-profit research-for-development (R4D) organization created in 1967, governed by a Board of Trustees, and supported primarily by the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
The Position:
The Project Accounts Assistant has the responsibility of providing timely and efficient accounting and financial support to IITA staff and multiple projects; and is the point person for communication with IITA Headquarters on project accounting matters.
The position is based at IITA office in Nairobi, Kenya.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Assist
scientists in the development of project budgets.
- Liaise with HQ
for creation of cost centres in Oracle for newly approved projects.
- Ensure control
and reconciliation process for sub-regional offices i.e. budget control,
funds transfers, reporting system and bank reconciliations for the
accounts related to the projects.
- Manage budget
commitments (reviewing, committing and cancelling as necessary).
- Prepare monthly
Budget Execution Reports for the respective project leaders following a
standard format providing analysis of variances against budgets.
- Carry out a
verification of funds availability prior to approval of project
expenditures
- Review and
understand donor agreements and monitor project expenditure to ensure
compliance with donor requirements.
- Review partner
financial reports ensuring conformity to the reporting format and other
requirements.
- Prepare donor
financial reports in coordination with HQ; verify and confirm correctness
and validity of the expenditure entries in Oracle versus reported
expenditure.
- Attend project
team meetings and provide graphical representations of project finances
advising on action to be taken in reallocating funds within approved donor
parameters.
- Enter data,
review and vet accuracy of account/budget code before posting in Oracle.
- Ensure data is
not over-duly held on the system due to control mechanisms and errors.
Requirements:
- Degree in a
relevant subject with proven finance and accounting skills and should have
attained full CPA-K qualification.
- At least five
(5) years of relevant work experience gained in an international
organization
- Prior experience
with donor funded projects.
- High level of
computer skills, ability to handle complex financial and accounting
systems including knowledge of Oracle and ability to learn new
applications quickly.
- Possess high
level of integrity and respect for confidentiality.

position and will be for an initial period of Two (2) Years, renewable subject
to Six (6) months’ probation, assessment of performance, and availability of
