Job Title: Director of Works and Services

Location: Effurun, Delta

Job Summary

  • The Director of Works and Services is the head of the Works and Services Department.
  • He reports to the Vice-Chancellor and is responsible for the overall administration, coordination, and management of all works and services in the University, providing leadership in planning, execution, and monitoring of infrastructural projects.
  • He shall, in addition, perform such other functions as may be directed by the Governing Council and the Vice-Chancellor.

Responsibilities

  • Providing professional and administrative leadership for the University's Health Centre Directorate.
  • Coordinating and supervising the activities of medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory scientists and other healthcare personnel of the Directorate.
  • Developing and implementing policies and programmes for effective and efficient healthcare delivery in the University.
  • Ensuring the provision of quality preventive, diagnostic, curative and emergency medical services.
  • Advising the Vice-Chancellor and University Management on medical, public health and occupational health matters.
  • Preparing and implementing the Directorate's annual budget and ensuring the prudent management of medical facilities, equipment and resources.
  • Coordinating healthcare provision, disease prevention, immunization, medical screening and other public health initiatives.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant professional standards, healthcare regulations and medical ethics.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective referral arrangements with tertiary hospitals and other healthcare institutions.
  • Performing any other duties assigned by the Vice-Chancellor.

Requirements
Candidates must:

  • Possess a good honours Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution. Possession of a higher degree (Master or PhD) is an added advantage;
  • Have a minimum of 18 years post-qualification experience;
  • Have served as a Deputy Director for not less than five (5) years;
  • Have spent a minimum of nine (9) years cumulatively in cognate experience in senior management within a public tertiary institution;
  • Be registered with COREN and have evidence of a valid practicing license;
  • Not exceed sixty-five (65) years of age upon completion of the five-year tenure;
  • Be in excellent health condition and exude a pleasant disposition. In addition, candidates must be ICT compliant.

Tenure:

  • The successful candidate for the office of the Director of Works and Services shall have a single term of five (5) years from the effective date of appointment.

Remuneration and other Conditions of Service

  • The remuneration and other conditions of service are as applicable to the position of a Director of Works and Services, Federal Universities in Nigeria, and as may be determined from time to time by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the University’s Governing Council, as appropriate.
