Job Summary

  • We are seeking a detail-oriented, disciplined, and highly accountable Accountant to join its team in Lagos.
  • The ideal candidate should have practical accounting experience, preferably within the transport, logistics, haulage, or another cash-intensive industry.
  • The successful candidate will play a critical role in strengthening financial controls, reducing revenue leakages, ensuring proper cash collection and lodgement, and maintaining a fraud-free terminal environment.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring daily financial activities at assigned terminals and ensuring strict compliance with the Company’s accounting and financial policies.
  • Identifying, preventing, and reporting revenue leakages, financial irregularities, and suspicious transactions.
  • Ensuring that all monies collected from ticket sales, cargo, and other revenue streams are accurately accounted for and paid into the Company’s designated bank accounts.
  • Conducting daily cash reconciliation and comparing cash collections with tickets issued, sales records, and other revenue reports.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate lodgement of all cash collected into the Company’s accounts.
  • Following up with Terminal Managers and other relevant personnel to resolve discrepancies and recover outstanding cash.
  • Maintaining proper documentation and supporting records for all financial transactions.
  • Ensuring strict compliance with internal financial controls and accounting procedures.
  • Monitoring terminal operations to help maintain a fraud-free and financially accountable environment.
  • Investigating discrepancies, shortages, and unusual transactions and escalating findings promptly to Management.
  • Reconciling cash collections, bank deposits, accounts receivable, petty cash, and other relevant accounts.
  • Assisting with bank reconciliations and the preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports.
  • Maintaining accurate accounting records using QuickBooks and other approved accounting systems.
  • Supporting Management with relevant financial information and reports for decision-making.
  • Working closely with the Finance team and Terminal Management to improve financial controls and operational accountability.
  • Carrying out other accounting and finance-related duties as assigned.

Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate should have:

  • A B.Sc./HND in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working as an Accountant, or in a similar finance role.
  • Experience in a transport, logistics, haulage, courier, or other cash-intensive business will be a strong advantage.
  • Practical experience in cash management, revenue reconciliation, bank lodgements, and financial controls.
  • Strong knowledge of QuickBooks and other accounting software.
  • The ability to identify discrepancies, investigate financial irregularities, and prevent revenue leakages.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent numerical, analytical, and reconciliation skills.
  • A high level of integrity, accountability, and confidentiality.
  • The ability to work independently and follow up effectively with different departments and operational staff.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Professional accounting qualifications are an advantage but not compulsory.

Salary
N200,000 - N450,000 / month.
