Position: Credit Controller 
 
Reports to: Chief Accountant
 
The Role Function:The primary function of a Credit Controller is ensuring all customer accounts are within credit terms and limits. Furthermore, to ensure all collections are done in time.
 
It is vital that a Credit Controller builds and maintains relationships with all customers, to ensure smooth running of accounts and encourage timely recovery of payments.
 


Credit Controller role, duties and responsibilities 
 
A Credit Controller will be expected to perform the following tasks:
  • Ensure customer accounts are reconciled to system statements.
  • Ensure allocation of payments is done.
  • Timely and effective collection of all outstanding debt.
  • Negotiating re-payment plans
  • Maintaining contact with clients
  • Resolving queries both internally and externally around outstanding invoices
  • Prepare weekly and monthly collection reports.
  • Ensure customer credit limits and terms are maintained.
  • Timely resolution of customer queries and disputes.
Person Specification
 
Typical qualities of a successful Credit Controller include:
  • Ability to establish and maintain good client relationships, both internally and externally at all levels.
  • Ability to reconcile complex accounts and have excellent attention to detail.
  • Professional mannerism in handling customers queries, complaints and disputes.
  • Able to work under pressure
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Commerce -  Finance degree or its equivalent
  • CPA-II and above will be an added advantage
  • 2 years’ experience in Credit control / Debt collection background
  • Proficiency in Sage Pastel will be an added advantage
  • Competence in Microsoft Office products, XL and accounting software programmes
