Fulltime Faculty – Gastro-Enterologist
 
Department of Medicine

Applications are invited from appropriately qualified candidates for the position of Full Time Faculty – Gastro-enterologist in the Department of Medicine.

Position Summary:
 
Reporting to the Chair of Medicine, the Full Time Faculty, Gastro-enterologist will be involved in development of a highly skilled and competent cardiology team, in the delivery of quality services to patient with gastro-enterological diseases and their families.  

Through professional leadership, he/she will ensure quality in all aspects of care and services, and the efficient cost effective utilization of resource.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership to staff and act as an exemplary role model through leading by example.
  • Treat patients in the Gastroenterology Clinic, conduct ward rounds, and participate in internal medicine and gastroenterology call rotas.
  • Participate in resident’s modular learning as an educator, in department teaching, research activities and administrative duties as assigned by the Chair
  • Take a lead in the development and implementation of clinical pathways, protocols and policies and guide in the management of gastroenterology services.
  • Ensure quality indicators are in place to measure efficiency and effectiveness of care delivery and outcomes.
  • Through professional leadership, develop and promote the most clinically effective practices employing effective change management strategies to enhance quality of patient care.  Participate in establishing standard of care with unit staff and in monitoring delivery of care according to standards.
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and members of the public, providing relevant clinical information.
  • Develop and maintain evidence based standards of Gastroenterology practice.
  • Promote clinical research within the Gastroenterology Department.
Requirements:
  • Applicants must have a recognized a Master of Medicine or equivalent with recognition as an internist.  
  • S/he should be an internationally recognized training programmer in Gastroenterology with eligibility for license to practice in Kenya.  
  • S/he should have a minimum of 5 years clinical experience at a reputable institution with demonstrated interest in academics and research activities.  
  • Publications in peer review journals and previous university appointments will be an advantage.  
  • The ideal candidate should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team.

Full Time Faculty - General Surgery in the Department of Surgery.

Position Summary:
 
Reporting to the Chair of Surgery, the Full Time Faculty will provide clinical services to patients and clinical supervision in the operating room during peri-operative care of patients.  

As part of the Faculty, s/he will give formal teaching and carry out research in defined areas, as well as areas of professional interest and knowledge.  

S/he will be involved in committee activities in areas of teaching, research, clinical or administration

Key responsibilities:

Clinical:
  • Develop and implement work plans for service growth in both quality and quantity in general surgery in the area of COLO-RECTAL SURGERY.   
  • Attend and supervise house staff during outpatient clinics;
  • Participate in call duties, ward rounds and operating room;
  • Oversee attendance and supervision of house staff as per the clinical governance guidelines of the Department of Surgery;
  • Provide clinical leadership and supervision of junior staff.
Academic:
  • Teach, assess, and mentor medical school students, interns, and residents;
  • Develop and review syllabus for assigned teaching modules;
  • Clinical teaching of all staff cadres in applicable inpatient and outpatient services;
  • Provides leadership for assigned PGME program roles;
  • CME and CBL teachings and attendance;
  • Research involvement in areas of University priority and areas consistent with professional interest and knowledge;
  • Participation in DRTC, examination and other faculty or departmental meetings as may be determined.
Requirements:
  • Applicants must have a Masters of Medicine in Surgery and a fellowship in Colorectal Surgery, and be registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists’ board with board recognition in Surgery.  
  • S/he should have teaching and research experience or activities to reflect a strong interest.  
  • Applicants with expertise and experience in elective work for both benign/ oncological colorectal cases and emergency cases will be preferred.  
  • S/he must have a minimum of two (2) years post fellowship in the subspecialty of colorectal surgery (for colorectal surgeon) and laparoscopic skills.  
  • S/he should demonstrate a scholarly and reflective approach to clinical practice and the ability to engage in teaching and training others.

Full Time Faculty – Interventional Cardiologist in the Department of Medicine.

Reporting to the Chair of Medicine, the Full Time Faculty, Interventional Cardiologist will be involved in development of a highly skilled and competent cardiology team, in the delivery of quality services to patient with cardiovascular diseases and their families.  

Through professional leadership, he/she will ensure quality in all aspects of care and services, and the efficient cost effective utilization of resource.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain a highly competent team for both ambulatory non-invasive cardiology.
  • Provide leadership to staff and act as an exemplary role model through leading by example.
  • Treat patients in the Cardiology Clinic, conduct ward rounds, and participate in internal medicine and cardiology call rotas.
  • Participate in resident’s modular learning as an educator, in department teaching, research activities and administrative duties as assigned by the Chair.

Full Time Faculty – Neurology in the Department of Medicine.

Applicants must have expertise and experience in elective work for Trauma/burns, orthopaedic, breast, cosmetic and any other malformations that require reconstruction.  

S/he must have a minimum of two (2) year’s post fellowship in the subspecialty of Plastic and Reconstructive surgery skills. 

The ideal candidate should have teaching and research experience or activities to reflect a strong interest.  

S/he should demonstrate a scholarly and reflective approach to clinical practice and the ability to engage in teaching and training others.



Full Time Faculty (Infectious Diseases) in the Department of Medicine.

Reporting to the Chair of Medicine, the Full Time Faculty, Infectious Diseases (ID) will be involved in the development of a highly skilled and competent Infectious Diseases Team and in the delivery of quality services to patients with infections.  

S/he will provide professional leadership to ensure quality in all aspects of care and services and the efficient cost effective utilization of resources.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Treat patients in the ID Clinic, conduct ward rounds and participate in internal medicine and ID call rotas;
  • Participate in the resident’s modular learning as an educator, in departmental teaching, research activities and administrative duties as assigned;
  • Take a lead in the development of Clinical pathways, protocols and policy guide management of ID services;
  • Ensure quality indicators are in place to measure efficiency and effectiveness of care delivery and outcomes;
  • Promote clinical effective practices, employing effective change management strategies to enhance quality patient care.
  • Promote clinical research within the ID Department.
Requirements:

Applicants must have a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) and a Postgraduate Degree in Internal Medicine or equivalent with recognition as internist.  

S/he must be registered/ eligible for registration with Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists board and have internationally recognized training in infectious Diseases.  

The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years experience with evidence of significant academic and research activities.  

S/he should have good leadership, effective communication and team building skills.
