Company Description

Sanergy is a social venture building a sustainable sanitation network throughout Nairobi's slums, by creating a network of local entrepreneurs who run small-scale sanitation centers. 

We provide affordable, accessible and hygienic sanitation services to individuals, thereby making a valuable contribution to their communities. 

We have launched a network of 160 sanitation facilities in Nairobi and are expanding rapidly. 

We also collect the waste and convert it into valuable byproducts, such as organic fertilizer. 

Role & Responsibilities:

As Sanergy expands, we must work closely with all levels of the government to ensure that we scale our model efficiently and effectively. 

This requires a cohesive, comprehensive government relations strategy and its subsequent execution. 

Key Accountabilities:
  • Work with Senior Management to formulate startegy to work with each relevant division of government
  • Work with Managersto understand their government-related challenges to incorporate into strategy
  • Ensure and maintain strong relations with any and all relevant government departments – most notably the Ministry of Water, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation, Ministry of Lands, NEMA, and the City Council of Nairobi.
  • Ensure and maintain Sanergy’s compliance with all relevant and essential ordinances, laws and approvals
  • As Sanergy expands, procure in advance the approvals necessary to establish operations
Key Requirements:

Competency / Knowledge Requirements
  • Deep knowledge of East African political and cultural landscape
  • Experience with strategy development and implementation
  • Strong business acumen
  • Experience working in a high-pressure environment

Other Requirements
  • Degree or significant experience in government relations required
  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work effectively within time constraints
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
