IT Assistant

Duty Station: Nairobi
 

Under the technical supervision of the IT Officer, the IT Assistant’s overall responsibility is to provide support to a large number of  IT users as well as perform routine maintenance of IT and Communication infrastructure in Mandera, Wajir, Dadaab and Nairobi.
 
Key Accountabilities
  • Primary responsibility for the installation and maintenance of all IT and Communication systems including VSATs, HF and VHF Radios, wireless network access points, routers, RBGANs and Thuraya and Iridium satellite phones.
  • Responsible for the backup of system files, user files and emails as well as assisting users with these backup processes and the recovery of backed up data in case of data loss.
  • Responsible for maintaining an up-to-date centralized register for IT! Communication hardware and soft ware and information management systems in accordance with the IRK policies and procedures.
  • Support users with key applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
  • Support users with the installation and configuration of printers, digital cameras and other hardware.
  • Help users with other ad hoc computer tasks and requests for support.
  • Assist in the maintenance of shared resources sand shared folders.
  • Installation of relevant Operating Systems and Application in user computers as well as the primary maintenance of these software systems including upgrades.
Required Qualifications
  • Diploma in Information technology, Computer science, Information Systems or any other related field. Bsc Degree will be an added advantage.
  • 2 years experience in a busy computer network department on commercial or international organization
  • Experience in remote data solutions including Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSAT) and Regional Broadband Global Area Network (RBGAN).
  • Experience in the use and maintenance of HF Radio systems include Codan radios, VHF radios, Thuraya and Iridium satellite phones.
  • Hands-on experience in networking and cabling, network administration including working with Cisco products and wireless networks. Knowledge of the TCP/IP networking protocol is desirable. Work with network printers is also critical.
  • Skills in computer desktop applications including Word processing, Spreadsheet, Presentation and Database application software.
  • Experience in user support in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office platforms include support of Exchange Server mail system and Microsoft Outlook clients. Knowledge of remote user support is very important.
  • Self-started with the ability to work without supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
