Job Summary:
Under the guidance of the Senior Technical Officer, Pharmacist,
support the strengthening of the commodity management system and
pharmacovigilance for Gold Star (GS) Kenya working in close collaboration and
partnership with established public and private sector supply chain systems
supporting integrated RH/FP, MNCH, TB, HIV and malaria programs.
S/He will mentor health service providers on the pharmaceutical
management information system, pharmacovigilance tools and provide policy and
technical updates in support of current national guidelines for the priority
high impact interventions on HIV/TB management including ART.
Basic Function:
- Provide
technical assistance to strengthen the pharmaceutical commodity management
system for a national network of private sector providers franchised by
the Gold Star Network (GSN).
- Strengthen
partnerships and collaborative relationships with public sector commodity
supply systems and private sector suppliers of essential commodities to
the GSN.
- Strengthen the
logistical arrangements for private providers to access and account for
the essential commodities.
- Monitor the use
of the pharmaceutical commodities by the private providers in the network
by providing mentorship and coaching to service providers on inventory
management (quantification, requisition, storage, expiry tracking and
reporting).
- Provide updates
to service providers on pharmaceutical management information system
(PMIS) and the use of current tools
- Provide updates
to the service providers on the revised HIV/TB treatment and ART policies,
service guidelines and facilitate the development of treatment standard
operating procedures (SOPs).
- Provide
mentorship and coaching on ART adherence preparation of new patients,
medication use counseling and the use of the ART dispensing tool (where
applicable).
- Strengthen
supportive supervision for and monitoring of ART and TB treatment
adherence (using multiple approaches) and the early warning indicators
(EWIs) amongst the private sector providers.
- Provide support
in counter-checking provider prescribing practices, use of appropriate
formulations, documentation and reporting of adverse drug interactions.
- Support quality
assurance and improvement initiatives for rational drug use amongst the
network providers.
- Facilitate the
adoption and use of the ARV Dispensing Tool (ADT) where applicable.
- Perform other
duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Requirements:
- Diploma in
Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized Medical Training College with
7-9 years relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree in the same field with
5-7 years of relevant work experience.
- Inservice update
training on TB, Malaria and HIV Care/ART, Commodity Management (and preferably
TOT experience).
- Experience in
mentoring and supervision of other pharmacy staff on inventory management, rational
use and quantification.
- Experience using
the ARV Dispensing tool (ADT) is an added advantage.
- At least 5
years’ experience in providing support for a busy ART program.

Job Summary:
Provides training, on-site technical supportive supervision,
mentorship, coaching and regular updates to Gold Star Network (GSN) service
providers in the area of integrated HIV and TB prevention, care and treatment,
including male circumcision.
Responsible for working closely with service providers that Gold
Star (GS) Kenya engages with to ensure that the quality of prevention, care and
treatment is sustained across the program as defined by the Ministry of Health
(MOH) quality standards and national guidelines.
Basic Function:
- Provides
training, supportive supervision, mentorship, on-site coaching and updates
to GSN service providers to ensure patients receive quality HIV and TB
prevention, care and treatment services according to the national quality
standards and national guidelines.
- Supports GSN
service providers by recommending relevant prevention, care and treatment
for the patients with opportunistic infections and recommend initiation of
ART treatment in accordance with MOH recommended guidelines.
- Offers
mentorship to GSN service providers attending to HIV-infected individuals.
- Coordinates and
provides needed support to ensure GSN providers with high patient
workloads and poor performing sites in terms of initiating patients on
treatment are mentored and the necessary skills and confidence are
transferred to the clinicians.
- Supports providers
to institute systems for inter- and intra-facility referrals.
- Ensures quality
of care is attained for patients seeking the services.
- Ensures
documentation of appropriate services rendered to the patients is done in
the relevant service registers.
- Performs other
duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Requirements:
MD/MB ChB registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and
Dentist Board with 3-5 years work experience and at least 2 years of experience
working in a health facility offering HIV comprehensive care and treatment,
demonstrable knowledge of HIV and TB service delivery and the various
interventions being offered to prevent and control the morbidity and mortality
arising from the infections will be an added advantage
