The Danish Refugee Council
(DRC) has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa
since 1997. DRC has been active in Kenya since 2005.
The Kenya Program provides
services and support in the sectors of WASH, livelihoods, protection and relief
to IDPs, refugees residing in Kenya and the resident communities hosting IDPs
and refugees.
Livelihoods Coordinator
Dadaab Kenya
Overall Objective
Working under the Head of Programs, the Livelihoods Coordinator will provide strategic direction and lead, supervise and facilitate the smooth running of DRCs Dadaab based livelihoods programme.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop and
operationalize DRCs livelihoods strategy that targets refugees and host
communities, addresses protracted displacement and return issues, is needs
driven and impact-oriented
- Provides
proactive leadership in coordination and inter-agency learning
- Designs and
manages DRCs livelihoods activities specifically: income generation, group
savings and loans, revolving funds, vocational/professional skills
training and strengthening of small scale businesses
- Uses an
in-depth local understanding of livelihoods dynamics to identify new
livelihood opportunities for refugees and host communities
- Designs and
carries out business, market and supply-chain assessments, feasibility
studies and income/expenditure analysis; contributes technical expertise
to proposals and ad hoc studies/assessments
- Ensures the
team produces accurate and timely reporting of activities against planned
objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s
or advanced degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Community
Development or other related field.;
- Minimum
5-years’ working experience with INGOs in the fields of livelihoods at
management/coordination level with at least 2-years’ experience engaging
with refugees, asylum-seekers, migrants and/or other vulnerable
populations in economic strengthening interventions.
- Excellent
command of the most common methodologies to identify, assess and monitor
livelihood activities, with proven record of achievements.
- Experience
with Household Economy Approach (HEA), working experience in NEP and in
Somalia is an added advantage.

Availability: January 2013
Duty station: Dadaab, Kenya with travel to other DRC-Kenya program areas. Dadaab is non-family duty station.
Contract: One year renewable contract.

remunerated as per the DRC Horn of Africa salary scale for national
recruitments.
