Projects Officer – Civic Education and Human Rights
The broad objective of Catholic Justice & Peace Commission is to examine and study the problems associated with Justice and Peace, with the aim of awakening God’s people to full understanding of these problems, so that they can effectively participate in finding appropriate solutions.
The Commission also aims at responding to the demands of justice
and charity and to the social injustices and situations, guided by the social
teachings of the Catholic Church.
The Commission advocates for peaceful co-existence among the communities, good governance and human rights issues among other social development issues.

The Catholic Diocese of Nakuru (CDN) acts as a neutral partner
where all social, development and governance issues within its coverage are
addressed without favour.
The office works under the direction of the Bishop through the
Development Office in serving the above needs.

Job Description:
Under the overall supervision of the Executive Secretary – Justice and Peace Commission, the person shall be responsible for conceptualization, formulation and effective management of secretariat’s initiatives in the areas of Civic Education & Human Rights.
The person shall perform the following duties;
- Coordinating
the development of work plans and monitoring tools of the programmes in
the designated area of operation.
- Developing
fundraising proposals and carry out resource mobilization for the
activities in the service areas.
- Developing
and maintaining alliances in government agencies i.e. the judiciary and
the security services to enhance lobbying and advocacy.
- Maintaining
active contact with the media for enhancing media awareness on emerging
issues and for alliance strengthening.
- Participating
in peace networks and collaborates with other peace work organizations and
peace pressure groups.
- Submitting
monthly written reports to the Head of the Commission on the areas of
operation
- Making
recommendations as the need arises to the Head of the Commission for
enhancing effectiveness in specified areas of operation.
Requirements:
- Must
have at least a University degree preferably in Political Science and
Administration.
- Should
have prior knowledge and skills in project planning, implementation and
management
- Other
related short courses such as law studies shall be an added advantage
- Must
have atleast 2 years progressive work experience in Governance & Human
Rights field
- Management
experience with knowledge of Community Participatory Approaches M&E
- Prior
experience in interacting with NGO’s and funding agencies shall be an
added advantage
- Strong
beliefs and practices deep commitment to ideals, values and Social
Teachings of the Catholic Church is a must
- Strong
intellectual, analytical and decision making abilities
- Must
have a valid driving license
- Must
be computer literate, conversant with operations software’s
- Should
have good writing, reporting and communication skills
