Medair Somalia/Somaliland is seeking a qualified candidate to
fill the following position based in Hargeisa, Somaliland.
Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) Advisor
Main responsibilities include:
1. WASH Project Management
- Maintain
overview of country WASH programme and regional context
- Develop
a relevant and sustainable country strategy
- Develop
WASH related donor proposals and manage reporting process
- Provide
technical advice to WASH teams, field managers and HQ on existing projects
and new developments
- Define
appropriate policies, guidelines and protocols for the WASH aspects of
Medair’s work in country
2. Representation
- Develop
and maintain relationships with UN, NGOs, donors, partners and other
stakeholders with the objective of raising public awareness of Medair and
ensuring good co-operation and partnerships.
- Represent
Medair at coordination, sector and bilateral meetings with national and/or
local government departments
3. Staff Management
- Be
involved in recruitment of WASH staff, providing advice on technical
skills and experience
- Ensure
that all WASH staff are adequately trained and where possible create
opportunities for further development
4. Financial Management
- Construct
WASH budgets and ensure WASH project expenditure is in line with approved
budgets
5. Quality Management
- Ensure
that all standardised formats and procedures are used and guidelines are
followed
- Ensure
WASH projects are implemented in line with donor proposals and
requirements and in accordance with Medair, donor, country and
international standards e.g. Sphere and HAP standards, WHO
recommendations, etc.
- Regularly
assess and provide feedback and recommendations on the quality of WASH
programmes
- Maintain
a resource library for WASH and keep up-to-date with the latest trends and
updates within the sector
Qualifications and Experience:
- BSc
in Water/Environmental Engineering/Management or Civil Engineering or
Hydrology/Geology
- 1
year experience in relief work with an NGO managing and coordinating WASH
projects
- Very
good English (spoken and written)
- Computer
literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
