Senior Mechanical Engineer

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Space and Power Planning, the position holder will be responsible for organizing, managing, and delivering successful completion of projects by working with project teams to provide support and oversight on mechanical engineering services.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Space and Power Planning, the position holder will be responsible for organizing, managing, and delivering successful completion of projects by working with project teams to provide support and oversight on mechanical engineering services.
The position holder will
also coordinate project activities from commencement to completion, providing a
communication link with internal and external stakeholders and offering
technical supporting role through all stages of mechanical services design,
installation, commissioning and handover.
The job holder’s key responsibilities will be to:

- Prepare baseline
mechanical designs (specifications, drawings/layouts and Bills of
Quantities) for mechanical services in new hub sites – (Media Gateway
Sites, BSCs Major hubs) and oversee their installation;
- Review
designs, specifications, Bills of quantities for mechanical services
designs prepared by external consultants and vendors for accuracy, cost
and performance;
- Investigate
mechanical services designs and installations in existing equipment rooms
and advice remedial/upgrade works;
- Attend site
inspections at appropriate intervals to ensure installations are carried
out in accordance with Safaricom specifications and prescribed standards;
- Develop new
and optimized specifications for mechanical services and guidelines for
installations to be used in Technology division;
- Manage and
maintain a database of all mechanical services installations in Safaricom
key installations;
The ideal candidate should possess the following skills &
competencies:
- Bachelor of
Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Production Technology from a
recognized university;
- Minimum 4
years’ technical experience in a busy service or manufacturing sector with
active hands-on engagement in design, specification, installation and
commissioning, operation and maintenance of industrial HVAC systems;
- Experience
and knowledge in design and implementation of mechanical services in data
centers and or telecommunications equipment rooms with at least 3 years
work experience on air conditioning systems;
- Certification
& practical experience in Project Management will be an added
advantage;
- Excellent
communication, interpersonal and presentation skills;
- Self-motivated
and capable of working with minimal supervision;
- Work under
pressure with capability to carryout multiple tasks;
- Team Player;
- Working
knowledge and competence in MS Office; MS Project, Word, Power Point,
Excel, basic CAD
