Community Mobilization Officer - Lodwar
Reporting to the Livelihood Manager, the position will
contribute to the implementation of OFDA funded livelihood recovery and
empowerment project in Turkana West District.
This is a field position who will be working very closely with
the Livelihood and DRR Officers and is expected to spend majority of working
time within the project area, locations and villages.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
- Will
conduct community mobilization and awareness raising campaigns during
implementation of the project in Turkana West District
- Support
the DRR and Livelihood Officers in community information documentations on
lessons learned in each intervention for information sharing.
- Conduct
follow-up meetings with all the targeted groups in the project which
include VSLA, LMA, CAHWs, business associations and DRR committees.
- Interact
on a regular basis with targeted beneficiaries with the aim of introducing
and explaining each projects’ objectives, mobilize community participation
and ensure it conforms to work schedules, and provide mentorship for
community activities in regard to projects being implemented · Carry
out community/project beneficiaries training with a view to
creating/raising awareness and building their capacity to run implemented
projects.
- Develop
and implement proactive and community participatory responses to droughts
and other disasters for livelihood recovery.
- Works
closely with local partner APAD and other collaborators that include NDMA
drought monitors in gathering early warning information and give regular
updates to the project team, and feedback to the targeted beneficiaries.
- Initiate
and create sustainable strategic linkages aimed at enabling the local
communities to access funding for from other instruments targeting DRR and
livestock based livelihoods.
- Ensure
that the communities are continuously involved and kept up-to-date with
project developments.
Minimum Requirements
- Advanced
diploma or diploma in rural community development, animal science, social
work/community development, and livelihood.
- At
least three years experience in community mobilization and development in
pastoral livelihood systems in ASALs.
- Experience
and understanding of NGO work experience
- Experience
in the use of participatory methodologies such PRA, FGD, ABCD in drought
responses and early recovery
- Experience
in community training, advocacy for change and ability to inspire
community economic empowerment.
- Computer
literate
- Team
player
- Fluency
in Nga’turkana language a must
