Background
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been providing humanitarian
relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. DRC’s

integrated emergency humanitarian interventions in WASH, livelihoods and
protection. Integral components of the protection program include
protection infrastructure, establishment and supervision of community watch
groups, violation monitoring and capacity building.

Protection remains a major issue for those affected by
emergencies and protracted displacement settings in both formal and informal
settlements. The Protection Program seeks to enhance the protective

building of duty bearers and rights holders to uphold human rights; increasing
access to services by survivors of violations and increasing information access
by the general populace on prevention and response of protection violations.
