Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates who are Kenyan Nationals to fill the above position on a Fixed Term Appointment in the Health Section of UNICEF Kenya Country Office.
Purpose of Post:
The overall assignment of the technical assistance of the Child Health Specialist will be to provide key technical support for UNICEF Kenya Office in its efforts to support the government to strengthen the programming and implementation of key child health activities.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- To provide
key technical support for UNICEF Kenya Office in its efforts to support
the government implementation of key child health activities;
- Design,
prepare, implement, monitor and evaluate CHILD HEALTH programmes (EPI and
Malaria Control) with a focus on accelerating the implementation of
the high impact interventions through various strategies including
supporting the AOP development, implementation and review process,
rolling out child to parent initiative, community case management;
- Raise the
profile and urgency of effective CSD interventions at National, District
and Provincial health Stakeholders forums, strengthen district and
provincial level analysis of MNCH related indicators
- Identify
gaps in achieving universal coverage of high impact health interventions
identified in the CSDS and recommend actions to be taken at national ,
county and community levels;
- Support
development, review and implementation of child health policy, child
survival and development strategy, school health policy and other relevant
policies and guidelines
- Contribute
towards the preparation of the Situation Analysis by compiling data,
analyzing and evaluating information, and writing chapters of the Analysis
to include an update on any disparities in health indicators between
different provinces/ districts in Kenya
- Participate
in inter-sectoral collaboration with other programme colleagues for the
systematic delivery of an integrated package of MNCH services.
- Assists in
development of appropriate communication and information strategy to
support and/or advocate programme development.
- Undertake
field visits to monitor all the health sector programmes, as well as
conducts periodic programme reviews with government counterparts and other
partners. Proposes and/or undertakes action on operational
procedures affecting project management and implementation.
- Participate
in the development of sectoral work plans and achievement of assigned
objectives. Provides guidance and support to staff in meeting project
objectives. Participate in Child Health, EPI and malaria Interagency
Coordinating Committees
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s
degree in public health, pediatrics etc.
Competencies:
- Excellent
communication and networking skills
- Knowledge of
the current issues in Child Survival in Kenya and the region with
experience in planning, implementing and monitoring and evaluation
- Experience
in developing policy and strategy documents and dissemination of the same
to a wider government, donor and key NGOs and the community.

Experience:
At least eight years
progressive experience in public health or related field with focus on child
survival and development programs
Language(s):
Language(s):
Fluency in English and
another UN working language required. Knowledge of Swahili and experience
in Kenya will be an asset.
