Land Rights Co-Ordinator
Kenya Land Alliance (KLA) is an umbrella network set up to coordinate the efforts and activities of member organizations and individuals participating in the formulation and implementation of national Land policies and land law reforms in Kenya.
Reporting to the Programs Coordinator, the successful candidate will be charged with the management of Land rights projects at KLA and assisting the National Coordinator in representing the organization at local, regional and international stakeholders’ forums.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop
a Community Empowerment, Land Rights and Governance Program.
- Organize
capacity building and training workshops for member and communities in
land governance and management
- Facilitate
and encourage members to initiate sustainable land use and conservation
programs.
- Audit
the landless, IDPs and squatters populations and advocate for, and monitor
their resettlement program
- Establish
and coordinate Land Rights Centres with regional and/or county nodes.
- Facilitate
exchange visits and sharing of knowledge and experiences;
- Organize
and facilitate the community sensitization and civic education on the
constitution, land and natural resources;
- Organize
and facilitate county land forums.
- Assist/facilitate
communities to negotiate benefit sharing agreement on the use of local
natural resources
- Promote
establishment of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms
- Facilitate
the poor and marginalized land dependent communities’ access to legal
support and advice
Minimum Requirements:
The ideal candidate should have:
- Good
interpersonal skills with highly developed analytical and organizational
skills
- A
bachelors Degree in Law, with a post graduate diploma from Kenya school of
law (A masters degree will be an added advantage),
- Computer
Knowledge and proficiency in MS office suite,
- At
least three years of working experience as a project/ program officer in a
civil society organization or 2 years of work experience in a law firm or
the equivalent
- Willingness
to be based in Nakuru and ability to engage in travel on the job
