Our
Kenyan client, a manufacturing concern based in North Rift Kenya, is looking to
hire a Machine Shop Foreman reporting to the Managing Director. The main
responsibility for this role is to set up, operate and maintain company
equipment.
The Primary Duties of this role will include:
Develop
drawings and specifications from general verbal descriptions or rough sketches.
Assist with design of projects based on knowledge of design, capacity, properties of metal and plastics and precision machining techniques.
Analyze work orders and estimates time, machine and material requirements for completion of job assignments. They should also determine which work requests should be directed to external vendors.
Maintain time and production records.
Interprets specifications, blueprints, sketches and job orders to workers and
prioritizes and assigns projects based on skills, expertise and current
workload. Assist with design of projects based on knowledge of design, capacity, properties of metal and plastics and precision machining techniques.
Analyze work orders and estimates time, machine and material requirements for completion of job assignments. They should also determine which work requests should be directed to external vendors.
Maintain time and production records.
Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules using knowledge of capacities of machines and equipment and requirements for product performance. Looks for ways to enhance shop efficiency.
Develop, maintain and enforce internal operating procedures to ensure compliance with safety regulations and security procedures.
Hire, train new workers and monitors performance.
Maintain and control inventories at levels adequate to sustain efficient operations and negotiate with vendors for optimal price on goods and services.
Maintain machines and equipment in safe, operating order. They should also be able to make repairs as appropriate or determines when vendors should be contacted for servicing.
Key Required Skills and Experience:
Have
a Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technician
course and have 10 years working experience as a Machinist in a reputed
company.
Must read and draw engineering drawings and handle all types of instrument related to mining e.g. Vernier, Micrometer-inside, outside, bore gauge etc.
Must be well familiar with all types of fittings and tolerance table
Must have experience on gear cutting equipment, that is, Lath Machines, Shaping and planning machines, Radial Drilling Machine, Slotting and Milling machines, Line boring Machine, Operation of Portable grinding and drilling machines
Be able to work with minimum supervision, be innovative, enthusiastic and energetic
Have good communication and interpersonal skills
Have proven ability to interpret and apply safety regulations
Be highly organised, paying close attention to detail and have effective time management skills
