Job Title: Truck Driver

Job Description

  • We are seeking a qualified Truck Driver to join our team.

  • As a Truck Driver, you will be responsible for driving trucks or other heavy vehicles to transport cargo over short or long distances.

  • Your role involves loading and unloading goods, adhering to traffic regulations, and maintaining vehicle safety and cleanliness.

Main Task and Responsibilities

  • Safe operation of trucks, tractor-trailers, or delivery vehicles following specified routes and schedules.

  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is in good working condition and compliant with regulations.

  • Plan efficient routes and logistics, considering factors like traffic, weather, and delivery schedules.

  • Address any issues that arise during transit, such as mechanical problems or traffic delays.

  • Properly load and unload cargo, ensuring safe handling and securing of goods.

  • Communicate with dispatchers and customers to coordinate deliveries and address any issues.

  • Adhere to all traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations.

  • Maintain accurate records of deliveries, mileage, and other relevant information.

  • Interact courteously with customers during delivery and pickup.

  • Work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues and supervisors.

  • Responsible for handling the physical demands of the job, including loading, unloading, and climbing into the truck.

  • Undertake route planning, taking into consideration passenger needs and traffic conditions.

  • Record material deliveries.

  • Ensure pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.

  • Basic vehicle maintenance and the ability to identify potential mechanical issues.

  • Assess and resolve issues that may arise during transit quickly.

  • Collect and deliver staff and clients to and from their destination as required.

  • Responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of their vehicles in a clean and tidy condition.

  • Report any accidents and vehicle damage, and possible offences under the Road Traffic Acts ,as well as all matters affecting the efficiency and day-to-day running of the transport service.

  • Ensure that the company vehicle is in order before embarking on any journey.

  • Stop any work that can potentially harm people, assets or the environment.

  • And any other duties that may be assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Minimum O-Level.

  • Minimum of 4-5 years of proven experience as a truck driver.

  • Conversant knowledge of routes through Port Harcourt and its environs.

  • Strong knowledge of road safety rules and regulations.

  • Strong commitment to safety, with a focus on following safety protocols and procedures.

  • Ability to adapt to changing schedules, routes, and customer needs.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to operate articulated boom equipment/lifts like bucket trucks, atrium lifts, crawler, rough terrain forklifts is an added advantage.

  • Should reside in Port Harcourt or be willing to relocate.

Abilities:

  • Ability to handle long-distance trips and meet tight deadlines.

  • Ability to lift heavy packages and luggage.

  • Good communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Good teamwork skills.

  • Good problem-solving skills.
