Job Title: Managing Director - Stock Brokerage

Location: Victoria Island, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • The Managing Director (MD) will oversee the strategic direction, operational performance, and regulatory compliance of the stock brokerage firm.

  • This role is responsible for driving business growth, maintaining client confidence, ensuring market integrity, and leading a high-performing team of brokers, traders, and analysts.

  • The MD will work closely with stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and institutional and retail clients to achieve both financial and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement the firm’s vision, mission, and long-term strategy in line with market opportunities.

  • Identify new business lines, market segments, and investment products to expand the firm’s portfolio.

  • Monitor industry trends and competitor activity to maintain a competitive advantage.

Operational Management:

  • Oversee daily operations of the brokerage, ensuring efficiency and risk management.

  • Implement and enforce compliance frameworks aligned with financial market regulations (e.g., SEC, FINRA, or local regulatory bodies).

  • Manage financial performance, budgets, and P&L accountability.

Client & Stakeholder Relations:

  • Build and maintain relationships with institutional investors, high-net-worth clients, and strategic partners.

  • Oversee client acquisition and retention strategies to maximize assets under management (AUM).

  • Represent the firm in industry events, media, and public relations engagements.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate senior management, brokers, and support staff.

  • Foster a culture of high ethical standards, transparency, and performance.

  • Establish clear KPIs and performance evaluation systems.

Risk & Compliance Oversight:

  • Ensure strict adherence to trading regulations, anti-money laundering (AML) standards, and risk management protocols.

  • Review and approve high-value transactions and investment recommendations.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a related field (master’s/MBA preferred).

  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in stock brokerage, investment banking, and asset management, with at least 5 years in an executive leadership role.

  • Valid securities and brokerage licenses as required by the jurisdiction.

  • Strong knowledge of equity markets, trading strategies, investment products, and compliance regulations.

  • Exceptional leadership, negotiation, and strategic planning skills.

  • Proven track record of driving revenue growth and profitability.

  • Highly experienced in marketing and investment.

  • The candidate should not be less than 40 years old

Other Requirements:

  • Skill in dealing with public and private sectors in Nigeria.

  • Understanding of the business models of financial services organizations.

  • Experience with capital/fundraising nationally & internationally.

  • Proven excellent track record of achievement in this role or a similar role in a dynamic corporate environment.

  • Registered as a sponsored individual with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

  • Ability to think strategically whilst maintaining a pragmatic perspective.

  • Ability to build and nurture strategic business relationships.

  • Ability to provide business acumen, energy, and vision to the organization.

  • In-depth understanding of the impact of changes/trends in the financial services industry.
