Vacancy: Interviewer and Field Assistant
 
Impact Research and Development Organization (IRDO) is a registered Kenyan NGO with a main office in Kisumu and regional offices in 10 counties of Kenya. 

IRDO’s principal mandate is to design, implement and evaluate HIV/AIDS research and intervention programs that improve the health status of individuals and local communities. 

IRDO in collaboration with the Department of Anthropology, Ohio State University US plans to conduct a research to investigate substance use, violence, and HIV risk among female sex workers in Kisumu. 

We are looking for qualified and experienced personnel to fill in the following position from mid July 2016.  
 
Position: Interviewer and Field Assistant  
 
Reports to: Principal Investigator  
 
Location:  Kisumu  
 
Duration: Up to Six Months   
 
Job Summary: The Interviewer and Field Assistant will carry out fieldwork and conduct qualitative interviews for a project investigating substance use, violence, and HIV risk among female sex workers in Kisumu.  
 
Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Locating participants and conducting fieldwork.
  • Recruiting, screening, and consenting study participants.
  • Conducting in-depth, qualitative interviews with female sex workers. 
  • Wide variety of field activities, including community outreach, field-based behavioral observations, and interviews that require sensitivity, ingenuity, and flexibility. 
  • Assisting with data entry, transcription, and translation of in-depth interviews.
  • Data analysis and interpretation.
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary.  
Minimum requirements
  • Diploma in Social Sciences, Community Development, Community Health, Nursing, Clinical Medicine, or equivalent.
  • Fluency (written and verbal) in English, Swahili, and Dholuo.
  • Interviewing skills and experience with transcription and translation of qualitative interviews. 
  • Prior health-related research experience, conducting community outreach and/or participant recruitment strongly preferred.  
  • Basic computer skills and are strongly preferred.

  • Mature, responsible, dependent, highly organized, and motivated.
  • Able to maintain the highest ethical standards in conducting research.
  • Interest in drug use, violence, and women’s health issues, with a passion for working with socially marginalized populations highly desired.
