Study Nurse Coordinator

Job Description
 
This research study is seeking a full-time study nurse coordinator at Ahero sub-District Hospital.
 
Study Nurse Coordinator Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Recruit and enroll participants into the study
  • Respond to participant SMS (text message) communication daily (Monday-Friday)
  • Update SMS system with participant information
  • Collect data per approved Standard Operating Procedures and input into Android tablet system
  • Conduct follow up visits via phone and in person with study participants
  • Submit twice-weekly summaries of recruitment and enrollment into the study to the study Principal Investigator (PI) and site-PI
  • Lead twice-weekly phone call with PI and rest of study staff
  • Maintain communication between study staff and PI
  • Ensure strict compliance with ethical requirements for conduct of research
  • Maintain adequate supplies of study documents and other study supplies at both study sites
  • Collect and submit receipts from any purchases made on behalf of the study to UW-Kenya country office in Nairobi as Project Field Administrator
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills Required
  • Registered Nurse/Higher Diploma in nursing
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Past research experience: At least one year
  • Held a previous position in Maternal and Child Health
  • Excellent communication skills: Must be able to communicate regularly with PI via email and Skype
  • Excellent skills with text messaging and mobile phones
  • Language skills: fluency in English, Kiswahili, and Luo
  • Team player with ability to work closely with other study staff at the site, Research Officers, and Retention Officers
Contract with UW-Kenya for 1 year with potential for renewal.

Retention Officer: 

Job Description
  • This research study is seeking a full-time retention officer at Bondo District Hospital and Ahero sub-District Hospital.
  • Retention Officer Responsibilities and Requirements
  • Conduct home visits for each participant enrolled
  • Facilitate enrollment of male participants in the community by accompanying Research Officers into the field
  • Assist study nurses with recruiting and enrolling participants into the study
  • Assist with translation of SMS messages and study documents
  • Participate in twice-weekly phone call with PI and rest of study staff
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills Required
  • Experience working in the community with extensive geographic knowledge of the area and how to find participants’ homes
  • Good computer skills
  • Past research experience: At least one year
  • Familiar with Maternal and Child Health needs of the community
  • Excellent communication skills: Must be able to communicate regularly with PI via email and Skype
  • Language skills: Fluent in English and Luo
  • Excellent skills with text messaging and mobile phones

Research Officer: 

Job Description

This research study is seeking a full-time Research Officer at Bondo District Hospital and Ahero sub-District Hospital.

Retention Officer Responsibilities and Requirements
  • Conduct home visits for each potential male participant
  • Communicate multiple times daily with Study Nurses and Retention Officers in order to identify potential male participants
  • Recruit and enroll male participants into the study
  • Prepare twice weekly summaries of male recruitment and enrollment and submit to Study Nurse Coordinator
  • Assist with translation of SMS messages and study documents
  • Participate in twice-weekly phone call with PI and rest of study staff
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills Required
  • Experience working in the community with extensive geographic knowledge of the area and how to find participants’ homes
  • Diploma in social work or other relevant field
  • Good computer skills
  • Past research experience: At least one year
  • Familiar with Maternal and Child Health needs of the community
  • Excellent communication skills: Must be able to communicate regularly with PI via email and Skype
  • Excellent skills with text messaging and mobile phones
  • Language skills: Fluency in English and Luo
  • Team player with ability to work closely with Study Nurses and Retention Officers
