Manager
Location: Nairobi, Kenya; travel to DIY user sites across Africa will be required as demanded by the job responsibilities
Background: Medic Mobile builds mobile and web tools that help health
workers provide better care that reaches everyone. We are focused on
identifying and addressing the highest-impact mobile use cases, currently:
antenatal and postnatal care, childhood immunizations, stock monitoring for
essential medicines, and disease surveillance. Location: Nairobi, Kenya; travel to DIY user sites across Africa will be required as demanded by the job responsibilities
We help
partners implement mobile tools for these priority use cases to amplify their
impact. As of 2014, we also offer our best tools and workflows as a
downloadable, guided, “Do It Yourself” (DIY) version of the Medic Mobile
platform.
Medic Mobile’s DIY package includes free, easy-to-install, and simple-to-use mobile and web applications which can be deployed by even the smallest organizations and clinics working in the most challenging settings.

package also includes design tools, implementation guides, reference guides for
users, and an impact monitoring framework.
Africa DIY Manager: We are searching for a DIY Manager to support the deployment of Medic Mobile’s DIY package in Africa.

The DIY
Manager will join a growing team, including a DIY Product Lead, marketing lead,
senior designer, software developers, and regional manager in Africa.
The Africa DIY Manager will be based in Nairobi. The position will report to the DIY Product Lead.

The DIY
team is in “startup mode” and the Africa DIY manager will need to work
independently to contribute to daily and weekly milestones.
Responsibilities:

- Champion
Medic Mobile's DIY toolkit in Africa, managing outreach to grassroots
organizations
- Provide
feedback on the DIY toolkit based on testing and user experiences
- Contribute
to overall goals for DIY delivery and impact
- Assist
with localization of tools, resources and workflows
- Serve
as community manager, providing programmatic and basic technical support
to DIY users in Africa
- Run
local and regional workshops on the DIY toolkit; provide individual remote
training sessions where needed
- Support
monitoring and evaluation of DIY use in Africa, including, but not limited
to, site visits and qualitative data collection and/or analysis
- Support
product direction and priorities by gathering insights from users in
Africa
- Provide
input on marketing and communications strategies to ensure local
engagement
- Provide
input for DIY funding proposals, where needed
- Work
with the Africa Regional Director to guide partners to the right package
of support and tools
- Represent
the DIY team publicly at events in Africa, where needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s
degree in public health, social sciences or management with experience in
field implementation of public health or other social development programs
- Tech
savvy; ability to learn to use new technology proficiently
- Start-up
experience
- Excellent
oral and written communication skills
- Ability
to collaborate with a distributed team on a self-directed work schedule
- Ability
to work under high pressure, meet deadlines, monitor and follow-up on
pending matters with minimal supervision
- Work
in global health and/or community health systems
- Solutions-oriented
approach to challenges
- Fluent
in English and Kiswahili, both speaking and reading/writing; other local
language skills a plus; French language skills a plus
- Must
have current, valid permit to work in Kenya
Medic Mobile’s DIY package represents a new approach to reaching
last-mile clinics with tools they can use.
We expect
our tools to lead to improved services at the community and facility level,
improving access, adherence, and quality of care for people in under-served
communities.
