Data Analyst Expert

Background
The purpose of the
programme is to explore the markets in which poor people pay for-profit
providers and shop-keepers for healthcare, a new area for
development assistance.
PSP4H utilizes a market systems technical approach called Making Markets Work
for the Poor (M4P) and is mandated to share lessons learned on the validity of
this method to design pro-poor health interventions.
Unlike many other
development programmes, PSP4H does not give grants or otherwise intervene
directly in markets; it is a technical assistance programme that offers
research, consulting advice, and capacity building to its partners to catalyse

Purpose of the Position
PSP4H seeks a Short Term Data Analyst expert to work within the programme on an as-needed basis to assist in research data interpretation, qualitative, analysis and reporting, the expert should have excellent abilities to review research protocols and be able to present a comprehensive data analysis planning for specific health and social research undertaken by PSP4H.
Scope of Work
Working closely with PSP4H technical staff, the Data Analyst Expert shall:
- Interpret
data, analyse results using qualitative and quantitative techniques and
provide on-going reports
- Develop and
implement data entry systems and other strategies that optimize
statistical efficiency and data quality
- Develop
coding and other pre-analysis charts for qualitative data analysis
- Acquire data
from primary or secondary data sources and develop and maintain
databases/data systems
- Identify,
analyse, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
- Filter and
“clean” data, and review computer reports, printouts, and performance
indicators to locate and correct code problems
- Work closely
with PSP4H staff to prioritize intervention and information needs
- Locate and
define new research process improvement opportunities for PSP4H
interventions
- Specific
assignments are based on the needs of PSP4H and its intervention partners
and typically range from 10 to 30 days in duration. Each assignment will
have specific terms of reference.
Qualifications and Requirements
- University
degree in business, management, education, or a related topic.
- A Master’s
degree in either of the following: Sociology, Anthropology, Demography,
Population Studies, Public Health, Statistics, Economics, Applied Research
is an added advantage
- Minimum of 5
years’ of post-qualification experience doing qualitative and quantitative
data analysis
- Competent
knowledge of statistics and experience using at least two of the following
statistical packages for analysing large datasets – Microsoft Excel, SPSS,
SAS, Stata, Epi Info.
- Competent
knowledge of and experience with at least one of the following qualitative
data analysis software: NVivo, Atlas.ti
- Strong
analytical skills with the ability to organize, analyse, and disseminate
significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
- Adept at
queries, report writing and presenting findings using both qualitative and
quantitative data.
- Strong
writing and presentation skills would be desirable
- Experience
in ;Impact and performance evaluations; Assessment and feasibility
studies; Cost effective analysis, Monitoring plans, strategies and
indicators; M&E-related policies and programs; Technical knowledge of
monitoring and evaluation tools and methods will be an added advantage
- This
position is scoped for Kenyan nationals; candidates of other nationalities
with the right to work in Kenya will be considered.
