About the Centre for the Study of Adolescence: Centre for the
Study of Adolescence (CSA) is a leading, national organization committed to the
promotion of the health and development of young people through research,
technical assistance, advocacy and capacity building to expand choices, and
improve access, to safe, affordable and sustainable reproductive health
services.
CSA works in partnership with governments and non government
organizations, professionals and communities to support young people’s right to
exercise choice, access health services and participate fully in activities
that promote their health and general well being.
Background of the Project:
The Access, Services and Knowledge (ASK) programme is a 3 year
programme (2013-2015) funded by RutgersWPF on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of
Foreign Affairs with the aim of enhancing uptake of Sexual Reproductive Health
(SRH) services among young people aged between 10-24 years, including
underserved groups.
The YEA alliance is a joint effort of 13 Kenyan partner
organizations, addressing access to SRHR Information and services for young
people and communities in 12 counties.
CSA is implementing the information and service components of
the ASK programme in Kisumu and Kisii counties in Nyanza region.
The anticipated key results include:
1. Young people are better informed and able to make healthier
choices regarding their sexuality
2. A growing number of people have access to anti-retroviral
drugs, contraceptives and other commodities required for good sexual and
reproductive health
3. Public and private clinics provide better sexual and
reproductive healthcare services, which more and more people are using.
4. Greater respect for the sexual and reproductive rights of
people to whom these rights are denied.
Summary of Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Plan and prepare project entry in new communities, schools and
health facilities
·
Develop and implement a social media strategy for increasing
direct access to information and linkage to relevant services for young people
·
Support the development and finalization of primary schools SRHR
curriculum and other educational material
·
Develop and institute FM radio SRHR programmes with two local
stations
·
Develop ASRH content for circulation in local and national
newspapers
·
Develop and institutionalize SRHR board and CD games with
content based on CSA’s existing material and content
·
Provide oversight on youth activities including debate forums on
SRHR in 80 schools, board games and peer education programmes to reach out of
school youth
·
Identify gaps and support capacity building activities for
implementers including health providers, youth groups and networks implementing
project activities
·
Mobilize youth participation in programme activities
·
Ensure that the implementation of projects builds capacity in
local communities, particularly amongst the youth as well as government staff
and agencies.
·
Represent CSA in all relevant forums at local and national
levels.
·
Develop referral and monitoring tools, support their use in
project activities and ensure regular collection of monitoring data and
reporting
·
Documentation of the implementation process and refocusing
activities to lead to desired health outcome
Desired Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
·
Undergraduate degree in social sciences or health sciences from
a recognized university (masters degree in community/public health or community
development will be an asset)
·
An excellent command of both English and Kiswahili
·
Strong communication skills both written and oral (including
report writing and M&E documentation)
·
Community engagement skills and ability to organize/conduct
community/county meetings with gatekeepers on health and livelihood related
issues
·
Good understanding of new media and its use for information
dissemination and behaviour change communications purposes
·
A commitment to improving the health and well being of young
people in Kenya and a non judgmental attitude to sexual and reproductive health
issues
·
Training and project management skills Advocacy experience
·
Excellent interpersonal skills
·
Experience working with young people
·
Computer skills (familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and
Power Point)
