The Selection
Panel for the Appointment of Chairperson and Members of the National Commission
for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI)
Applications are
invited from suitably qualified persons to serve as Chairperson and Members of
the National Commission for Science and Technology (NACOSTI).
The National
Commission for Science and Technology, which is a body corporate, is the
successor to the National Council for Science and Technology established under
the Science, Technology and Innovation Act No. 28 of 2013.
The Functions of
the Commission are as specified in the Act and can be accessed at www.ncst.go.ke
Applicants will
be considered from any of the following scheduled sciences as provided in the
Act: Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences; Physical, Industrial and
Energy Sciences; Biological and Health Sciences; Infrastructure, Information
and Communication Sciences; Humanities and Social Sciences and; Earth and Space
Sciences.
The positions are as follows:

A. Requirements for Appointment
1. Chairperson of the
Commission
A person shall
be qualified for appointment as a Chairperson if such a person:
(a) Holds a
doctorate degree from a university recognized in Kenya;
(b) Has deep
knowledge and long experience in science, technology and innovation;
(c) Has at least
fifteen years’ experience in leadership and management of public or private
institutions;
(d) Meets the
requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya
2. Members of the
Commission
(3 Posts)
A person shall
be qualified for appointment as a Commissioner, if such a person:
a) Holds at
least a Masters degree from a University recognized in Kenya;
b) Has
demonstrated adequate knowledge in development of science, technology and
innovation in Kenya;
a) Has at least
five (5) years of experience and leadership in matters relating to research,
science, technology and innovation;
b) Meets the
requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.

A. Duration of Appointment
The Chairperson
and Members of the Commission shall hold office for a term not exceeding three
(3) years and shall be eligible for re-appointment for one further term
B. Terms of Service
a) The positions
are non-executive
b) The Board
shall meet as often as necessary for the transaction of business but not more
than four months shall elapse between the date of one meeting and that of the
next.
c) The
Chairperson may at anytime and shall, upon written request by majority of the
Members, call a special meeting of the Board.

The shortlisted
applicants shall be required during the interviews to provide ORIGINAL AND
COPIES of the above documents, National Identity card/Passport, Academic
certificates and transcripts and; Commission for University Education Clearance
letter for degrees obtained in universities outside the Republic of Kenya
