About Compass Pig Farm: An upcoming pig farm located in Kisumu County with a stock of about 120 pigs and piglets.
 
Description of Position: 

The Piggery Supervisor will be responsible for overall operations at the piggery and will ensure that all pigs are healthy and well taken care of. 

He will be responsible for maintaining the piggery in pristine state and keeping meticulous records of the piggery operations. 

He will supervise any staff (including temporary hires) who will work at the piggery and act as liaison with food suppliers, vets and other local suppliers as well as potential clients/customers.
 
Job Description: including but not limited to...
  • Supervise feeding and ensure all pigs receive the right quantity of feed & water
  • Ensure veterinary  services such as clipping, castration, vaccinations, de-worming and iron supplements are provided in a timely manner
  • Actively communicate to business owners on the health and well being of the pigs by providing regular updates
  • Supervise slaughter of pigs and transport of pork & any other local disposal of pigs (marketing)
  • Keep or cause to be kept accurate updated records of pigs including their births, procurement, treatment, servicing, furrowing, death etc
  • Keep all financial transaction records on a daily basis and send all records in a timely manner as specified by supervisor 
  • Reinforce compliance of all policies, rules, procedures among the staff at the farm
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of the piggery/ pigs
  • Manage responsible disposal of bio- waste
  • Ensure security of the pig farm and safe keeping of supplies and stores & assets
  • Supervise repairs of the piggery and ensure it is in good condition
  • Ensure cleanliness of the piggery and  availability of water
  • Keep in stock essential vet supplies
Experience and Qualification
  • Must have a diploma in an agricultural course that covers animal husbandry from a recognized institution
  • Should have at least a year’s experience working in a busy animal farm. Experience in a pig farm will be a huge added advantage
  • Experience in record keeping
  • Knowledge in computer word and spreadsheet applications
  • Ability to express self in English and Swahili
  • Driving skills and experience will an added advantage
  • Must be able to produce certificate of good conduct upon shortlisting for interview
