Public education
within Kenya and in the U.S. is a critical objective of USAID/Kenya’s Program
Office.
Therefore, the Mission
will rely on MSI’s support for two years to obtain qualitative and anecdotal
evidence on the effects of projects on the lives of individual beneficiaries
for use in print and electronic materials.
For this purpose,
MSI, in close coordination with USAID, shall be responsible for producing
communications products and publications focused on USAID’s
strategy.
These will include:
an annual calendar; quarterly brochures; an annual report to the Kenyan public;
quarterly power point presentations for the Government of Kenya and/or other
donors; two packages of event materials per month (decision memo, scene setter,
speech, media advisory, and press release); 40 fact sheets on individual
activities to be updated quarterly; and, 47 county-specific posters to be
updated annually.

This short term
Specialist will support USAID/Kenya’s Development and Outreach Communications
(DOC) activities - LOE approximately 40 days.
The position will be
located in the USAID office at the U.S. Embassy compound in Gigiri, Nairobi.
Short-term
Responsibilities:
- Produce fact
sheets on newly awarded activities.
- Produce a
monthly e-bulletin to inform stakeholders in the United States
(USAID/Washington, Department of State, other U.S. agencies) and Kenya
(Government of Kenya, business and civil society leaders, and other
donors) about recent developments in the USAID assistance program in
Kenya.
- Provide draft
Decision Memos, Scene Setters, Speeches, Press Releases and Media
Advisories utilizing the templates provided by USAID.
- Propose a pilot
method for producing and disseminating weekly audio news and information
about the funding for and the impact of USAID’s assistance program in
Kenya to a minimum of 20 radio stations broadcasting, in Kiswahili, Luo,
Kikuyu, Akamba, Kalenjin, Somali.
- Support the
USAID Strategic Communications Plan Performance Monitoring Plan.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree
in Journalism, Communications or a relevant related field of study.
- At least four
years of related public relations, public outreach or Communications for
Development (C4D) experience.
- Demonstrated
experience producing written products such as articles, reports, fact
sheets, speeches, success stories, and press releases.
- English language
skills at the S/5 and R/5 level to perform communications technical
services.
- Ability to
travel as needed throughout Kenya.
