Scientists:
Hybrid Maize Breeder: Highlands
This position leads the development of maize products adapted to the highlands of Eastern Africa.
The incumbent will be working in a team, with support from Africa Region and the global Pioneer Crop Genetics Research and Development (CGR&D) organization.
The breeder will have access to the global germplasm, enabling technologies and deploy molecular breeding techniques in the execution of their duties.
The position requires
professional competency to perform activities that involve an expanded
theoretical knowledge, grounding and innovative application to an array of
problems.
A Ph.D. in an
agriculture or related field and at least two years experience or equivalent
amounts of relevant education and experience would be a strong
recommendation.
This position is
available on 1st July 2013 in Eldoret.
Senior Research Associates:
Maize Product Development:
Reporting to the highland breeder, this role supports the development of inbreds and hybrids in collaboration on a variety of maize research activities in the Africa region.
A key function will
involve molecular assisted selection and precision phenotyping of
diseases.
Logistical activities
includes, but is not limited to, data collection, yield and marker data quality
and analysis, seed preparation, tissue-sampling and nursery activities such as
planting, pollinating, harvesting and advancement of generations.
The incumbent will
plan and conduct experiments in consultation with the scientist, adapt
procedures as required, maintain and improve efficiencies in work place
operations, summarise experiments, manage and analyse yield and nursery
reports.
International travel
will be required.
The ideal candidate
should possess a M.Sc. degree in Plant Breeding, Genetics or a related
agricultural discipline, competency and experience in the design, execution and
analysis of field experiments.
Excellent
communication and interpersonal skills, as well as being fluent in English is a
strong recommendation to operate in an international environment.
