Senior Programmer Job in Kenya

The Academic Model Providing Access to Health Care (AMPATH-Plus) is a program under the auspices of Moi University School of Medicine and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) whose aim is to provide sustainable efforts in access to health care.

In addition to the MTRH site, AMPATH also supports the Ministry of Health in eleven (11) districts in Rift Valley, one (1) district in Nyanza and eight (8) in Western Province.

Applications are invited for the following vacant position in the AMPATH Plus program.

Post: Senior Programmer – (1 Post)

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, AMPATH Plus the successful candidate will among others, be responsible for the following:-

Responsibilities
  • Understand, contribute to and advise other AMPATH developers in software development, primarily Java web applications and OpenMRS (core and modules).
  • Design, maintain and deploy enterprise software to meet user and business needs.
  • Gather and document user requests for future upgrades and enhancements to OpenMRS (core and modules), as well as other custom enterprise software.
  • Conduct and/or inform IT on system-wide tests as well as provide user technical support.
  • Manage developer workloads in JIRA ticketing system. Curate vague JIRA tickets or epics into finite tasks.
  • Conduct daily scrum, handle blockers, assemble and lead coding sprints.
  • Monitor system performance to ensure that AMPATH production systems are operating optimally.
  • Work with forms and concepts team, data quality, reporting, IT and other developers to coordinate the development process and meet project deadlines.
Qualification and Experience
  • At least a bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, mathematics, management information systems, business administration or a related discipline.
  • Experience coding in Java, recommended 5+ years.
  • Work experience in software development and working in a team environment, recommended 3+ years.
  • Experience leading a small team, recommended 2+ years.
  • Recommended: experience working in health or medical software in resource-constrained environments,
  • Recommended: mobile experience.
  • Bonus: contributor to OpenMRS.

Terms of Employment

The successful candidate will be employed on a 1-year renewable contract terms with a competitive salary and allowances.
