Radio Access Optimization Senior Engineer

Reporting to the Senior Manager-RAN Optimization, the role holder is responsible for the 3G Radio Network Capacity optimization and 3G Site database update and parameter standardization. 

The job holder will also optimize new 3G sites in accordance with the agreed set KPI targets, manage customer complaints and identify potential bottlenecks in the 3G end to end network and escalate to Core PS related concerns. 

The job also entails monitoring 3G KPI’s and 3G Radio network optimization, 3G project Management and coordination.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate assigned 3G network projects: Ensure project timelines and standards are met. Ensure all project reports and documentation are complete and timely;
  • 3G Radio Network Capacity optimization: Analyze traffic trends, redistribute CE ‘s, Coverage control, manage IUB & power congestion to guarantee capacity;
  • Optimize new 3G sites in accordance with the agreed set KPI targets. Ensure radio parameters are well optimized for coverage, capacity and overall excellent user perception;
  • 3G Network Optimization: Continuously monitor the quality KPI’s on drive test, scanners and customer complains. Trigger corrective optimization plans and manage to completion;
  • 3G Site database update and parameter standardization:  Ensure all physical changes are updated on ATOLL database. Perform routine audit on sites. Maintain standards/3G parameter rules on all radio database parameters;
  • Manage customer complaints: Prioritize customer complaints and provide a solution/ recommendation within the agreed time frame. Identify and forestall potential complaint areas.
  • Identification of Potential bottlenecks in the 3G end to end network and escalate to Core PS related concerns.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Technical field – Electrical Engineering or Electrical Science, with an emphasis in Radio communications;
  • 3 years experience in telecommunication with 2 years minimum in UMTS hands–on experience in Radio Network planning and optimization;
  • Practical knowledge on use of radio planning tools and nominal cell planning;
  • Candidates with experience in Siemens or Huawei 3G equipment will have an added advantage;
  • Practical knowledge of 2G, 2.5G network a must;
  • Knowledge in tele-traffic Engineering is a plus.

Senior Radio Capacity Planning Engineer

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Radio Network Engineering, the role holder will carry out 2G network capacity provision, 2G site database update and parameter standardization. 

The job holder will also continuously monitor the 2G capacity KPI’s using network planning tools, issue long term network capacity plans like TRX forecasts, HR utilization and identify potential bottlenecks in the 2G end to end network and escalate to Regional Networks & Core CS  teams the related concerns. 

The job also entails 2G project management and coordination.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate assigned 2G network projects: Ensure project timelines and standards are met. Ensure all project reports and documentation are complete and timely;
  • 2G Radio Network Capacity Optimization: Analyze traffic trends, HR thresholds, redistribute capacity, LaPD capacity and manage Abis capacity & SDCCH/TCH congestion to guarantee capacity. Trigger for new 2G capacity sites in accordance with the agreed triggers for capacity sites. Forward to RF Planning Team for release of nominal plans, redesigns and integration parameters;
  • 2G Network Capacity Optimization: Continuously monitor the capacity KPI’s on network planning tools. Trigger corrective optimization plans and manage to completion;
  • 2G Site database update and parameter standardization:  Standardization of all 2G BSS parameters. Maintain standards/2G parameter rules on all radio database parameters;
  • Identification of Potential bottlenecks in the 2G end to end network and escalate to Regional Networks & Core CS teams the related concerns.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Science, with an emphasis in Radio communications;
  • 3 years experience in telecommunication with a minimum of 1 year of 2G/3G hands–on experience in Radio Network planning;
  • Practical knowledge on use of radio planning tools and capacity planning tools, MySQL, Erlang-B etc;
  • Practical knowledge of 2G network a must;
  • Thorough knowledge in traffic modeling and capacity forecasting and management. Knowledge in tele-traffic Engineering is a plus;
  • Candidates with experience in Siemens or Huawei 2G equipment will have an added advantage;
  • Sound analytic ability and attention to detail;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent trouble shooting and problem solving skills;
  • Computer literate.
