for Southern Africa (OSISA) is an institution committed to deepening democracy
and protecting human rights and enhancing good governance in Africa.
The Southern Africa
Resource Watch and the Economic Justice Programme of OSISA are hosting a UNDP supported regional project on
“Improving SLM and UNCCD policy and practice interaction in Sub Sahara Africa
through civil society capacity building”.
The regional project aims
to improve the socio - economic development and livelihoods of rural
communities in Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) through sustainable land management
with an objective of empowering local grassroots organizations in SSA to
participate and influence the implementation of the Ten Year Strategy of the UNCCD, TerrAfrica and other
Sustainable Land Management (SLM) processes, programmes and policies.
A Project Coordinator is
needed to manage this project and we are seeking a dynamic person to fill this
position.
Responsibilities include:
- Manage the
realization of project outputs through planned activities
- Provide
direction and guidance to project teams/ project partners (Environnement
et Dévelopement en Afrique (ENDA) and Equator Initiative (UNOPS)
- Liaise with
the project board and UNDP Namibia country office to assure the overall
direction and implementation of the project
- Monitor
events as determined in the monitoring & communication plan, updating
the plan as required;
- manage
requests for the provision of financial resources
- Manage and
monitor the project risks throughout the project lifecycle
- Capture lessons
and document good practices in projects
- Preparation
of standard progress reports and key targets as per UNDP/GEF & OSISA
reporting requirements
- Coordination
with broad stakeholders including national and regional governments, civil
society, local communities, NGOs, CBOs, private sectors and the general
public
Qualifications
- Master’s
degree in environmental sciences, development studies or humanities with a
strong emphasis on environment and development
- Minimum of
five years’ experience in project management, implementation and
monitoring
- Knowledge on
SLM and UNCCD processes
- Rights based
approaches to development
- Multidisciplinary
background in environment, development and human rights
- Programme
management and coordination
- Good
writing, communication and presentation skills
- Ability to
manage several simultaneous projects in a fast paced environment
- Good
interpersonal skills, self driven, highly motivated
- Ability to
function independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to
work under pressure, yet producing quality results is essential
- Ability to
work in a multi cultural environment with different partners
- Integrity,
diplomatic manner and professional discretion essential
