Program Description: The Research Care and Training Program (RCTP), is collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and University of Washington (UW). 

RCTP leads the Family AIDS Care and Education Services (FACES) program, a comprehensive HIV prevention, care and treatment program working in over 100 clinics in Nyanza Province, Kenya.
 

RCTP is seeking a motivated individual to fill the following vacancy for Sustainable East African Research for Community Health (SEARCH). SEARCH is a five year cluster randomized trial to test whether universal ART can improve health, educational, and economic outcomes. 

We are going to be conducting a household census in 12 communities and annual multi-disease diagnostic health campaigns. 

We will also be supporting ART delivery through FACES clinics.

Job Title: 
SEARCH Assistant Coordinator - Home-Based Testing

1 Position

Duration: Annual appointment, starting March 1, 2013
 
Job Summary: Overall coordination of 12 annual, multi-disease household-based testing campaigns in 12 communities in Nyanza, Kenya
 
Key Requirements:
 
Education
  • University or bachelor’s degree or any relevant training
Prior Work Experience:
 
Required:
  • Prior leadership experience managing teams
Preferred:
  • Experience with supervising research (public health or clinical studies)
  • Skills in grassroots community development programs, specifically health campaigns would be an advantage
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills:

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the planning and mobilization of 12 home-based testing campaigns/year
  • Regular meetings and communication with local leaders and Community Units
  • Develop home-based testing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with support from the Study Coordinator
  • Recruit, train and supervise field staff to conduct home-based testing according to the protocol
  1. Detailed training on the implementation of protocols, SOPs and questionnaires
  2. Provide mentorship and supervision
  • Manage relationships with collaborating institutions and partners
  • Participate in the ordering of supplies and equipment for home-based testing with appropriate use of local resources when available
  • Ensure effective and efficient utilization of petty cash
  • Ensure all home-based testing activities are completed within the timeline of the study
  • Provide monthly reports on the home-based testing activities and regularly communicate with the Study Coordinator

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Medicine and Surgery from a recognized university; Registration with the Kenya Medical and Dentists Board

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery must be registered or eligible to practice with the clinical medicine board.
Prior Work Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in HIV Clinical Care including anti retroviral

  • Development of systems to ensure delivery of high quality HIV treatment services in the SEARCH health facilities according to the study protocol
  • Oversight of ART delivery, mentoring, training, site evaluation, community follow-up, commodity management, and monitoring and evaluation
  • Direct responsibility for implementation and oversight of HIV treatment at SEARCH health facilities according to the study protocol
  • Supervision of staff that support linkage from SEARCH community-based HIV counseling and testing to HIV care and treatment
  • Develop and maintain relationships with partners including the Ministry of Health, collaborators, and community units
  • Provide leadership development and capacity building

Job Title: SEARCH Coordinator – Data

Job Summary:
 
Overall coordination of data collection activities at the census, community health campaigns, home-based tracking, and study health facilities.
 
Key Requirements:
  • Minimum of Diploma in social sciences, Public Health, Statistics or related field from a recognized university (Degree is preferred)
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a similar position for Diploma holders and at least 1 year experience for Degree holders.
  • Professional training in M&E required
  • Must be computer literate. Strong knowledge of Excel and basic statistics is required; demonstrated skill in statistical analysis, SPSS, MS Access and other databases formats strongly desired.
  • Able to monitor, gather and evaluate information of broad scope and complexity
  • Interest in working in an innovative and demanding environment with extensive travel to rural sites in southern Nyanza Province

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
 
Reporting directly to the SEARCH study coordinator and technically to the Program M&E/Data Manager, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
  • Routine and timely data entry of monthly reports from sites into various databases
  • Carry out Routine Data Quality Assurance (RDQA) at select sites each month
  • Train and mentor sites on Ministry of Health registers, Blue Card completion and other MOH tools
  • Train and mentor sites on the MOH731 reporting tool
  • Train and mentor staff on Census, Community Health Campaign (CHC), and Tracking data collection materials.
  • Work with staff at study health facilities and community-based data collectors to improve their data accuracy
  • Mentor staff on how to track and post their own performance based on their monthly reports
  • Collaborate with District Health Records and Information Officer (DHRIO) on site and district report development and presentations
  • Attend and participate in the quarterly systems meetings.
  • Prepare data for the assistant coordinators’ meeting.
  • Carry out program evaluations as needed
  • Prepare, write and submit monthly reports to the SEARCH Study Coordinator and Program M&E/Data Manager
  • Conduct other duties as specified by the investigators or SEARCH Study Coordinator.
