Africa International
University was founded in 1983 by the Association of Evangelicals in Africa, as
Nairobi Evangelical School of Theology (NEGST), and is a private Christian
university located in Karen.
The mission of the
university is to educate Christ-centered leaders for the transformation of
God’s people and world, through innovative programs, research and community
engagement.
The university wishes to
recruit a Vice Chancellor as the Chief Executive Officer to manage the university through
the transition to a world class institution, to spearhead strategic
growth-oriented changes, and to provide inspirational and transformational
leadership in the management of the university.
Suitable applicants must
demonstrate that they are born again Christians who are active and committed
members of a church and who prescribe to the evangelical Christian ethos and
faith.
Reporting to the Chairman of
the Board of the Governing Council, the Vice Chancellor will serve a four-year
renewable contract.
Responsibilities will
include:
- Uphold the
Christian identity of the university and subscribe to the evangelical
ethos
- Implement
the university’s strategic plan and the change process
- Direct,
organize, develop, and administer the university and its programmes
- Steer growth
and development of the university in a direction that strategically
positions the institution as a leader among private Christian universities
in Africa.
- Steer the
development and implementation of the academic programmes in the capacity
of Chair of the University Senate
- Direct and
coordinate the university’s financial and budget activities to fund
operations, maximize investments and increase efficiency
- Coordinate
the development and implementation of budgetary control systems and other
administrative control processes
- Mobilize
resources, students and staff growth
- Create and
maintain linkages with institutions of higher learning and other bodies to
ensure that the institution remains relevant
- Manage day
to day operations of the university
Qualifications
- A doctorate
degree (academic ) with a record of academic experience and
accomplishments
- Must have
served in senior academic and management positions for at least 10 years
in a university
Experience requirements
- Must be an
outstanding academic with an established research track record and
experience in a senior leadership role in an academic institution or
research organization
- Must
demonstrated track record of managing a complex portfolio and/or running a
department/division of reasonable size
- Must
demonstrate leadership skills and management of academic programmes at
university level
- Must uphold
professionalism, integrity, ethics, transparency, intellectual honesty,
teamwork and good stewardship
- Must be
guided by high moral standards based on Christian principles
- Must
demonstrate a successful record of leadership and team work
- Must have
the ability to mobilize and inspire others towards shared goals
- Must have an
understanding of the operations and affairs of a university environment
- Must posses
the ability to think strategically and actualize this thinking into plans
and projects
- Must posses
the ability to support the change process and redress of historic
imbalances in the university
- Must
demonstrate effective communication, persuasive and interpersonal skills,
as well as strategic, logical, sound decision making ability
Desirable
- Strategic
institutional leadership experience
- An
understanding of developments in the higher education arena nationally and
internationally
- Project
management skills
- Experience
in areas of teaching and learning, innovative course & programme
design, academic development and support, quality assurance and digital
scholarly resources
- Experience
in the higher education environment in Kenya
- Experience
in resource mobilization and fund development
