Business Trainers - Young Women in Enterprise

Program Description
 
TechnoServe’s Young Women in Enterprise and its implementing partners propose an adolescent girls’ (14-24years) economic empowerment project in Nairobi, Eldoret and Kisumu. 

The project’s goal is to increase disadvantaged girls’ economic resilience, thus reducing their vulnerability to HIV/AIDS and contributing to the reduction of HIV infection by 50% among them.

In this regard the Young Women in Enterprise Program is seeking to engage a 
Trainer who will be based in Eldoret or Kisumu whose work will be to implement the program in these two regions.  

This will be a contract work for six months with potential for extension to one year upon availability of funds.
 
General Job Description 
 
The Trainer will provide training and aftercare support to YWE girls in the program. 

The trainer will mobilize and recruit girls to join the enterprise clubs, provide training, and facilitate linkages to financial institutions, employment and internship. 

He/she shall manage all the aspects of their girl’s enterprise clubs including experiential business, mentorship, HIV messaging, ID card acquisition and savings. 

The trainer will be expected to be a good role model to the girls and maintain good relationships with girl’s families, the local community, partners and all key stakeholders. 

The specific responsibilities for the trainers will be:-

i. Mobilize and recruit girls to join YWE
  • Develop and implement an innovative strategy for recruiting the target group in the allocated project area through actively engaging girls, the community and key stakeholders.
  • Enroll girls into the program and form enterprise clubs.
  • Support identification of appropriate and safe meeting venues within the target areas within a walking distance to the venues.
ii. Training
  • Ensure availability of all training materials required for training sessions
  • Implement the training program in entrepreneurship, employability, agribusiness, and financial literacy as per the program curriculum
  • Ensure dissemination of HIV messaging, services and information.
  • Identity and train girls as peer educators to provide community outreach HIV/AIDS prevention programs.
  • Assist girls to open bank accounts with credible banking institutions and make savings.
  • Support the identification of alumni girls and business women to provide mentorship support to the girls.
  • Retain updated demographic database of the girls consisting their name, family background, skill set, location, mobile phone contacts.
iii. Managing the Enterprise clubs
  • Support girls to start and run experiential businesses
  • Plan and  roll out club level competitions
iv. Aftercare Support
  • Provide linkages for continuous learning in business, vocational skills and agribusiness
  • Help girls establish growth oriented business and micro franchises, Link girls to employment and internship opportunities, and basic computer training
  • Help girls access credit facilities from credible financial institutions e.g. banks, MFIs
v. Other Duties
  • Any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor(s) from time to time
The Trainer will report directly to the Business Advisor, or to any other person designated by the Program Manager.

Minimum Requirement 
 
The trainer shall possess the following qualifications:
  • Hold a university degree in Education, Social Sciences or Business related  disciplines
  • Have field work experience working in the community with young and dynamic people.
  • At least 1 year  working  experience as a trainer/teacher
  • Competence in computing skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Excellent written and communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
  • Must be social and approachable
  • Must be a good team player
Monitoring & Evaluations Associate - Young Women in Enterprise



General Job Description
 
The M&E associate will support management of the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) components of the Young Women in Enterprise (YWE) Program in Kenya.  

Reporting to the M&E Manager the M&E Associate will work closely with the YWE Program Manager, BAs and Trainers   

S/he will be responsible for enabling evidence-based decision-making processes by project leadership, maintenance of YWE M&E systems, and effective implementation of YWE M&E activities.

Duties & Responsibilities
 
M&E Systems and Processes:
  • Responsible for monitoring and evaluating program performance and reporting requirements;
  • Entering data into and analyzing information from M&E systems for use throughout project lifecycle;
  • Undertake regular visits to the field to support implementation of M&E activities;
  • Ensure quality control and identify where adaptations might be needed;
  • Ensure timely completion of major M&E deliverables, regular periodic analysis of data to identify and communicate lessons-learned, and regular periodic presentation of data and analyses to management;
  • Work with management to integrate M&E data into program planning and decision-making processes;
  • Work with project team members to collect and analyze data on a regular basis and produce narrative reports;
  • Provide coaching, direction, and leadership support to program team members in understanding the importance of M&E;
  • Work with program staff to identify M&E needs and provide training as appropriate.
Minimum Requirement
  • Bachelors degree in business, economics, statistics or international development-related studies;
  • At least 3 years of experience with M&E methods and approaches, including designing, planning, and implementing M&E systems, analyzing and reporting using a logical framework and other strategic planning approaches;
  • Proven ability to work with various M&E methods and approaches;
  • Ability to identify and measure social and health indicators is critical;
  • Experience working with youth training and/or mentorship programs preferred;
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills a must;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Business Advisor - Young Women in Enterprise

General Job Description 
 
Targeting 14-24 years girls and young women, the BA will primarily work with a team of trainers and business counselors to introduce girls to concepts of entrepreneurship, agribusiness, financial literacy and employability. 

They will support the girls to translate their training into tangible economic and social outcomes to improve their lives, start and grow individual or group enterprises, link them to employment/ internship opportunities, linkages to financial institutions for savings and credit opportunities, and assist them access HIV messaging. 

Reporting to the Program Manager for the Young Women in Enterprise and working as part of a larger team; the BA will:
  • Lead an innovative process of mobilization and recruitment of girls into the program and ensure participation of key partners (including parents/guardians and spouses) and stakeholders.
  • Oversee formation, development and management of girl’s enterprise clubs of 30 to 40 girls.
  • Implement the training programs for entrepreneurship, agribusiness, financial literacy, employability and HIV messaging. Ensure quality delivery of training to the girls, including co-facilitation with trainers, coaching and feedback to trainers.
  • Implement experiential business model to ensure girls practice the skills they are learning during the entrepreneurship training.
  • Provide oversight and support for all business start-up activities including vocational skills training, mentoring, and micro franchises.
  • Identify and facilitate linkages to financial institutions to open bank accounts, savings and/or borrow.
  • Supervise and build the capacities of the trainers and business counselors
  • Identify and build relationships high potential individuals, private and public sector organizations and partners supporting youth related work in their regions.
  • Identify a local placement agency or agencies that will link the YWE girls to employment/internships.
  • Support the M & E and reporting activities of the program as required.
  • Support other program tasks as part of the team and perform other assignments requested by the Program Manager
Minimum Requirement
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or relevant field with at least of 3 years experience in a role that involves training, business management and or capacity building.
  • Experience facilitating/delivering training curricula to a variety of audiences
  • Demonstrated capability in managing people.
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong interpersonal and cross cultural skills
  • Excellent communication skills required
  • Ability to communicate effectively across a range of seniority levels
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
