In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below:

Senior Manager, M-PESA Financial Services Specialist

Reporting to the General Manager – Financial Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for;
  • Championing the strategy for evolving M-PESA to full financial services in line with the Financial Inclusion agenda.
  • Analyzing of current Financial Services products and spear heading end to end project management of FS Products to service transition.
  • In Liaison with Product Development team, document and test processes and procedures prior to launch within agreed SLAs
  • Identifying & implementing local changes for process improvement, in liaison with internal stakeholders from technical and other departments.
  • Achieving operational objectives by contributing information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews.
  • Preparing and completing action plans for implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards.
  • Analysis and Determination of the Financial Services Innovation roadmap to ensure timely delivery of relevant financial services to Safaricom Customers.
  • Leveraging on both existing and emerging technology to reach the 'unbanked' while further enhance saving culture.
  • Implementing all Regulatory Compliance audits (covering KYC and AML initiatives) to successful completion.
  • Effectively managing staff and resources allocated through effective performance management, talent management, and coaching & mentoring and work life balance.
  • Providing comprehensive and accurate periodic progress reports for Safaricom senior management.
The ideal candidate should possess the following skills & competencies:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Project Management Certified – PMP / PMI or equivalent.
  • Eight to ten years post-graduation work experience of which 3 years must be in a management role.
  • Work experience in a technical field to Line Management or Senior Engineer level.
  • Experience in end to end management of multiple projects (of 6 to 12 month duration) simultaneously; which have impact across a company; which have an impact on customers; which have an impact on the revenue generation capability of the organization.
  • Expert level knowledge of financial services.
  • Possess a good understanding of financial principles, understands financial ratios, and able can interpret standard financial statements
  • Possess a good understanding of the Kenyan market, subscriber preferences and subscriber trends
  • In possession of good organizational, planning, report writing, presentation skills and keen to detail.
  • Proactive, confident, energetic with the ability to work under pressure, to tight schedules/deadlines and monitor and follow up on all actions taken.
  • A highly motivated person with a positive attitude towards work, innovative, creative, results oriented with excellent analytical skills.
  • A proven team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


Senior Coordinator - International Capacity and IP

Reporting to the Senior Manager - International Carrier & Wholesale Relations the job holder's key responsibilities will be to;
  • Establish clear pillars that will inform the purchase of capacity. These pillars should drive the capacity purchase requirement mix both locally and regionally and should proactively help the business anticipate what purchasing considerations will need to be made to ensure the business can effectively compete in this space.
  • Ensure the relationships with international Data/IP partners meets the needs of the business and evolves as per the strategic direction of the business by collaborating with the key stakeholders internally across the business to ensure the communication to the vendors is complete, correct and aligned to avoid silo management of vendor relationships;
  • Leverage on group synergies to accelerate access to vendors of strategic importance to the business by developing a clear and complete profile of the vendor touch points across the business including contract details, key contact persons, last contact made within the business and by whom;
  • Initiate forums where key vendors can engage internal stakeholders and cater for partnership models to obtain bargaining power for the business with vendors;
  • Manage and minimize international capacity and IP costs and ensure profitability and also ensure settlement for International Capacity and connectivity for Data and IP Services as per contract by ensuring that all capacity purchases are supported by a compelling and well documented business case and are prepared and reviewed within the pre-defined SLAs;
  • Ensure all contractual obligations for wholesale purchases of capacity are provided so that all documentation that will be required to correctly raise POs and invoices is done on a timely basis in the system;.
The ideal candidate should possess the following skills and competencies:
  • A recognized University Degree in  Bachelor of Science, Engineering, Technical  or Business related field;
  • At least 5 years work experience in the telecommunications sector which must include establishing and managing international carrier services and interconnection arrangements.
  • Experience in projects management is an added advantage.
  • Experience and technical skills in telecommunications industry and sound knowledge of International Telecommunications  Services is a mandatory requirement;


Manager - Projects

Role Profile

To coordinate and ensure consistent, on-time execution, implementation and completion of projects across the business, while guiding project workflow and resources through well integrated project guidelines and processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Maintain the Project Management process and framework;
  • Ensure all project plans are followed, documented and signed-off;
  • Provide training, guidance and mentorship in project management  to new project managers;
  • Monitor and ensure planned projects are delivered on time and within budget;
  • Undertake project post-launch reviews;
  • Prepare projects  progress reports and dashboards to ensure alignment by all stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelors Degree in business or Technical field – Engineering or Information Technology from a recognized university;
  • At least 3years work experience in project management  with experience to line management or senior engineer level;
  • Project management certification – preferably prince2/PMP or any other certification recognized globally for project management;
  • Experience in managing multiple projects (6 – 12 month duration) simultaneously from start to finish;
  • Good understanding of financial principles, financial ratios with ability to interpret standard financial statements;
  • Good understanding of regulatory framework for mobile operations particularly in the Kenyan environment;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Must have the ability to work within strict deadlines with minimum supervision;
  • Working experience in a Project Management Office will be an added advantage.


Senior Interconnect Coordinator
RF: FIN - SIC - JAN 2013

Reporting to the Senior Manager - International Carrier & Wholesale Relations the job holder's key responsibilities will be to;
  • Document a clear roadmap with the necessary SWOT implications built in that will inform the business and drive its international interconnect strategy by having a clear and documented action plan to address all matters identified so as to arrest any adverse implications that may reduce revenue and growth opportunities around International interconnect which should include clear decision milestones for review of the international interconnect rates and their implications on retail rates.;
  • Receive Interconnect rates from partners, review negotiate and analyse to decide on the optimised routing based on Cost, quality and capacity availability and implementation in the switching platform;
  • Review periodically jointly  with the Accounts receivable team the status of all international carrier debt position and establish key reasons for delay in payment;
  • Update interconnect rates and carry out interconnect costing as may be required;
  • Monitor quality of calls as per reports generated by internals quality tools and liaise with the appropriate operators to rectify any of these quality issues;
  • Work closely with the billing team in Technology and agree on a roadmap for full end to end automation of Interconnection carrier rates to aid in faster and swift implement of change in reports and prompt and real time monitoring of rates on traffic.
The ideal candidate should possess the following skills and competencies:
  • A recognized University Degree in Bachelor of Science, Engineering or Business related degree;
  • 5 years’ experience in international telecommunications and or planning. Knowledge of interconnection and roaming will be an added advantage
  • Experience in telecommunications industry and sound knowledge of International Telecommunications  Services is a mandatory requirement;
  • Very good knowledge of excel;
  • Computer knowledge -Ms Word, excel, power-point, access, MS project is a mandatory requirement.
