Position Description
The
International Republican Institute (IRI) in Kenya is competitively recruiting a
Program Assistant (PA) to support its civic education and local democratic
governance programs.
The
Program Assistant will provide a full range of administrative and programmatic
support to senior program staff responsible for the implementation of IRI
programs in Kenya, focusing on citizen participation, devolution, electoral and
political processes, and local governance.

General
duties and responsibilities for the Program Assistant position are as follows:
- Research,
write, and edit program documents, news summaries, and training materials;
- Actively
contribute to team projects and develops work product in collaboration
with other program staff;
- Communicate
with internal and external audiences on behalf of his/her supervisor,
including with program staff, civil society and governance partners, and
donors;
- Provide
efficient and timely action on administrative and accounting matters,
written assignments and submission of reports;
- Update
and maintain program resource files and contacts for purposes of
monitoring and evaluation and internal reporting;
- Coordinate
travel and logistical arrangements as needed;
- Act
as a liaison for IRI when working with the Institute’s civic education and
governance partners in the field;
- Travel
frequently to various locations throughout Kenya, independently and as
part of a team, to supportprogrammatic objectives; and
- Any
other duties assigned to support specific program objectives or other IRI
work in Kenya.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A
university graduate with a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in International
Relations, Political Science, Law or a related subject;
- A
minimum of 1-3 years relevant professional experience in international
development, civil society, law or a related field;
- Fluent
in written and spoken English (fluency in other languages a plus);
- Strong
written and verbal communication and presentation skills;
- Demonstrated
computer proficiency and knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and basic
online applications;
- Must
be able to travel to new environments for extended periods, and work both
independently and as a member of a team; and
- Proven
capacity to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously and
under tight deadlines.
Desired Qualifications:
- Knowledge
of basic accounting and budgeting skills;
- Experience
working on international donor funded programs in Kenya is a plus,
especially under USAID or NED; and
- Possess
an ability to analyze information, define problems, collect data,
establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
