Advertisement for the Posts of Principal and Deputy Principals
The College wishes to fill the following positions:
1. Principal
The successful candidate will be expected to meet the following
requirements:
Requirements
Applicants must have an earned PhD and be Professors/Associate
Professors.
They should have at least ten (10) years of academic research
and administrative experience at senior level and possess demonstrated capacity
for leadership in an academic environment.
They must have held senior administrative posts such as Chairs
of departments, Dean/ Director of a Faculty, School, or Institute in a
recognized university.
In addition, candidates are expected to be familiar with
national, regional and global trends in higher education and demonstrate
potential to plan, develop and implement academic programmes, institutional
linkages and managerial ability.
Successful applicants are expected to have excellent
organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, highest ethical
standards, integrity and professionalism.
Applicants should have been actively involved in research as
evidenced by publications.
Experience in networking, fundraising and resource mobilization
will be an added advantage.
Duties and Responsibilities
As the Chief Executive of the University College the successful
candidate will:
- Be the academic
and administrative head of the University College
- Have overall
responsibility on the direction, organization, administration and
programmes of the university College
- Coordinate
development and implementation of the academic and administrative policies
of the University College
- Maintain
efficiency and good order of the University College and ensure proper
enforcement of the statutes and regulations
- Provide
innovative and creative leadership in the areas of planning and
development
Terms and Conditions of Service
- Successful
candidates will be offered a competitive remuneration package, including
house allowance and benefits applicable to the Principal of a Constituent
University College of a public University in Kenya
- Employment will
be on a five (5) year contract renewable once depending on performance.
2. Deputy Principal (Academic and Student Affairs)
Duties and responsibilities
The Deputy Principal (Academic and Student Affairs) will be one
of the principal assistants to the University College Principal and will be the
head of Academic and Student Affairs Division, whose primary functions include:
development and preparation of academic programmes, courses, syllabi and
regulations; co-ordination of examinations, admissions, registration of
students, and general student campus life.
The successful candidate shall be responsible for ensuring that
the academic departments operate effectively and efficiently in line with the
Vision and Mission of the University College.
Under the direction of the Principal, the Deputy Principal
(Academic and Student Affairs) will ensure that the academic programmes evolve
into pillars of excellence.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should:-
- Be Professors or
Associate Professors who have at least seven (7) years experience in
senior management positions with a recognized scholarship record as
evidenced by refereed journal publications, project grants and awards that
have been attracted to date
- Demonstrate
competence in administrative and academic leadership in an
academic/research environment
- Demonstrate
evidence of outstanding ability to communicate effectively and good
interpersonal skills
- Show good understanding
and commitment to the University coupled with a passion for the promotion
of learning, excellence in teaching, research and innovation with the
highest ethical standards, integrity and professionalism
- Have skills,
capacity and determination to initiate and facilitate the development of
relevant and quality society driven academic programmes
- Have skills,
capacity and determination to initiate and sustain linkages and networks
for the promotion of scholarship
- Have proven
capacity to promote learning, teaching, research and development in a
university setting
- Have a good
understanding of the national policies and strategies governing university
education and training
- Have a broad
awareness of the factors and conditions shaping the development of higher
education in Kenya
Terms and Conditions of Service

3. Deputy Principal (Administration and Finance)
The Deputy Principal (Administration and Finance) will be one of
the principal assistants to the University College Principal and will be the
head of Administration and Finance Division whose primary function will include
the development and implementation of sound financial and administrative
policies and strategies in order to realize the Strategic Objectives of the
College.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should:-
- Be Professors or
Associate Professors with at least seven (7) years experience in senior
management positions
- Demonstrate
outstanding and internationally recognized scholarship record as evidenced
by refereed journal publications, as well as project grants and awards
- Demonstrate
competence in administrative, financial and academic leadership in an
academic/research environment
- Have a track
record of successful change management
- Show outstanding
ability to communicate effectively and possess good interpersonal skills
- Have a good
understanding of Government financial, human resource and procurement
policies; and demonstrate a clear understanding of policies and strategies
governing university education and training in Kenya.
- Demonstrate a broad
awareness of the factors and conditions shaping the development of higher
education in Kenya.
- Be of high
ethical standards, integrity and professionalism.
